Wilson Pickett Life

Wilson Pickett (March 18, 1941 – January 19, 2006) was an American singer and songwriter. Pickett, a major figure in the evolution of American soul music, released more than 50 songs on the US R&B chart, some of which made it to the Billboard Hot 100.

"In the Midnight Hour" (which he co-wrote), "Land of 1,000 Dances," "Mustang Sally," and "Funky Broadway" were among his hits, as a tribute to his contributions to songwriting and recording.

Personal life

Pickett was the father of four children. He was engaged at the time of his death.

Pickett's battle with alcoholism and cocaine use culminated in run-ins under the government's jurisdiction.

Pickett was jailed for yelling threats while inebriatedly driving his car over Donald Aronson, the mayor of Englewood, New Jersey. He was charged with drunk driving, refusing to take a breath test, and resisting arrest. Pickett promised to perform a benefit concert in exchange for having the disorderly conduct and property damage charges dropped. He served for his community service work.

Pickett struck an 86-year-old pedestrian Pepe Ruiz with his car in Englewood in 1992. Six empty miniature vodka bottles and six empty beer cans were discovered in his car, according to police. Ruiz, who had helped organize the New York animation union, died later this year. Pickett pled guilty to charges of intoxication by intoxication. He committed to recovery and was given a one-year in jail and five years probation. After his live-in girlfriend charged Pickett with murdering her and throwing a vodka bottle at her a week after this incident, a judge ordered him to leave his house.

Pickett was arrested in 1996 for attacking Elizabeth Trapp while under the influence of cocaine; she denied to press charges. Pickett was charged with cocaine possession.
