Wilson Pickett (March 18, 1941 – January 19, 2006) was an American singer and songwriter. Pickett, a major figure in the evolution of American soul music, released more than 50 songs on the US R&B chart, some of which made it to the Billboard Hot 100.

Pickett was jailed for yelling threats while inebriatedly driving his car over Donald Aronson, the mayor of Englewood, New Jersey. He was charged with drunk driving, refusing to take a breath test, and resisting arrest. Pickett promised to perform a benefit concert in exchange for having the disorderly conduct and property damage charges dropped. He served for his community service work.
Pickett struck an 86-year-old pedestrian Pepe Ruiz with his car in Englewood in 1992. Six empty miniature vodka bottles and six empty beer cans were discovered in his car, according to police. Ruiz, who had helped organize the New York animation union, died later this year. Pickett pled guilty to charges of intoxication by intoxication. He committed to recovery and was given a one-year in jail and five years probation.
