He is co-anchor of MSNBC's Morning Joe and anchor of Sunday Today with Willie Geist.

Early life
Geist, the son of newspaper columnist and broadcast journalist Bill Geist and social worker Jody Geist, was born in Evanston, Illinois. Geist is the younger brother of Libby Geist Wildes, the Academy Award-winning documentary film maker of O.J. Made in America and The Last Dance. He is the great-grandson of former Detroit Red Wings player Herbie Lewis, who is also a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Geist attended George Washington Middle School in Ridgewood, New Jersey, where he met his future wife, Christina Sharkey. They began dating at Ridgewood High School, where he was captain of both basketball and football teams, winning the 1991 state football championship. He was elected to New Jersey Boys State and the National Honor Society. Geist earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and French in 1997, where he served as an editor of the school's newspaper, The Vanderbilt Hustler.
Personal life
Geist married Christina Sharkey, a high school sweetheart, in Humaca, Puerto Rico, on May 24, 2003. Lucie Joy and George William are the two children of a wealthy couple. He is an Independent.
Geist is a member of the Michael J. Yerbo board. The Parkinson's Research Fund at the Fox Foundation. Bill Geist, a former New York Times columnist and CBS News reporter, has Parkinson's disease.
Geist is also a board member of Operation Mend, an UCLA Medical Center charity that provides free surgery and medical assistance to America's most wounded military veterans.
Geist ran the 50th annual New York City Marathon on November 7, 2021, to raise funds for the Michael J. The Fox Foundation. He completed his first marathon in 3:58:23 (the average time for a man of his age is 4:11:45) and raised more than $500,000 for Parkinson's Disease research, mainly in small donations. Geist carried a friend's engagement ring and handed it over to him along the route in Central Park, where his acquaintance then proposed.
Career
Geist began his career as an editor and producer for CNN Sports Illustrated, later becoming a field reporter and reporter for CNN Sports, where he covered the Super Bowl, the NCAA Final Four, and The Masters.
Geist began co-hosting MSNBC's 6–9 a.m. morning time slot right after Don Imus was fired in late April 2007. In September 2007, Geist was named permanent co-host of Morning Joe alongside Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski. Geist's own 30-minute program Way Too Early, hosted by Willie Geist in late July 2009, aired at 5:30 a.m. right before Morning Joe on MSNBC. Geist began substituting Matt Lauer as the show's host and as the show's newsreader in 2010. Geist became a formal co-host of Today and then Way Too Late in November 2012. Geist was made solo-host of the forthcoming Sunday Today show in April. In addition, Geist has been a contributor to every Olympic Games since 2010.
On the morning of June 12, 2016, Geist solo anchored NBC's hours-long coverage of the Orlando nightclub shooting.
