William Russell Life

William Russell, born William Francis Lerche, an American actor, writer, and screenwriter, died on April 12, 1884 – February 18, 1929).

He appeared in more than two hundred silent motion pictures between 1910 and 1929, directing five of them in 1916 and two others in 1918 and 1925, as well as two others from his own production company in 1918 and 1925.

Early life and career

Russell, a Bronx boy from New York City, began acting on stage when he was eight years old. He appeared with such celebrities as Ethel Barrymore, Chauncey Olcott, Blanche Bates, Maude Adams, and others.

Prince Flavia (1925), Cyrano de Bergerac (1923), and The Tenderfoot (1904) are among Russell's Broadway credits.

His work came to a halt when he was 16, but it came as he was an invalid. He recovered his health six years later thanks to vigorous physical therapy. He then became the amateur boxing champion.
