Joseph Sweeney (July 26, 1884; other sources state 1882) was an American actor who appeared in stage productions, television, and films from November 25, 1963.
In 1957 film 12 Angry Men, his most well-known part was as the elderly Juror #9, which he played in a 1954 Westinghouse Studio One live teleplay of which was a remake.
Later life
Sweeney continued acting until his death, appearing in numerous television shows, including at least twelve in the last year of his life. He died on November 25, 1963, at the age of 79.
Stage career
Sweeney spent time as a stage performer in such productions as The Clansmen, George Washington Slept Here, Ladies and Gentlemen, A Slight Case of Murder, Dear Old Darlin, and Days To Remember. In the 1940s, he made the switch to television as viewers' tastes changed. In Arthur Miller's The Crucible, he returned to the stage in 1953 to portray Giles Corey.
