William Boyd Life

William Lawrence Boyd (June 5, 1895-1972), an American film actor best known for portraying Hopalong Cassidy.

Personal life

Boyd was married five times, first to wealthy heiress Laura Maynard and then to actress Ruth Miller, Elinor Fair, Dorothy Sebastian, and Grace Bradley. William Wallace Boyd, the boyd's second wife, died of pneumonia at the age of 9 months. Boyd invested both time and money in real estate after being pushed to Palm Desert, California, after his release from film. In later years, he avoided interviews and pictures, opting not to delude his millions of followers who remembered him as a screen idol.

During the 1952 presidential election, Boyd was a lifelong Republican and he supported Dwight Eisenhower's campaign.

Boyd has a motion pictures star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1734 Vine Street, thanks to his contributions to the film industry. He was inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in 1995.

Boyd died of heart disease and congestive heart disease in 1972. He was survived by his fifth wife, actress Grace Bradley Boyd, who died on September 21, 2010, on her 97th birthday. In the Great Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, he is buried in the Sanctuary of Guiding Love alcove. (Glendale)
