In "House of the Dragon," there is a symbolism behind the hairstyles

"House of the Dragon," HBO's prequel to "Game of Thrones," delves into the House Targaryen's turbulent past nearly 200 years ago, before Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) competed for the Iron Throne. Even though the series introduces us to a whole new cast, including King Viserys Targaryen (Matt Smith), Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), and Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock), to name a few — there's a lot of symbolism in the hair and costumes to unpack, much like the original version. Fans of "Game of Thrones" know that hair color is often a good way to tell members of the household apart. Despite the size of Westeros, a white-blonde typically indicates a Targaryen; a Lannister, not a white blond. Daenerys was known for her icy blonde and intricate half-down braided hairstyles in the original show, while Rhaegar (Wilf Scolding) had bleached and tousled waves. Despite the fact that the new show focuses on a completely different plot, the signature hairstyles are still easy to spot, with similar designs surfacing between King Viserys and Rhaegar, as well as Daenerys and Rhaenyra.
