Kim Jung-hyun (born April 5, 1990) is a South Korean actor. He is best known for his appearances on television series Welcome to Waikiki, Crash Landing on You, and Mr. Queen.

Early life

Kim was born in Busan, South Korea. He majored in acting at the Korea National University of Arts.

Kim completed his compulsory military service in Kangwon-do's 3rd division when he was 21 years old.

Career

Kim made his silver screen debut in the film Overman, which premiered at the 2015 Busan International Film Festival after having appeared in numerous musical theater performances. At 25th Buil Film Awards and the 22nd Chunsa Film Art Awards, he received Best New Actor nominations.

Kim made his small screen debut in 2016 and attracted attention for his role as Gong Hyo-jin's younger brother in the romantic comedy Don't Dare to Dream.

He appeared in The Rebel, a historical drama. The series was a critical and commercial success, and Kim received the Best New Actor award at the 2017 MBC Drama Awards.

He appeared in MBC's two-episode series, Binggoo, alongside Han Sun-hwa.

Kim Se-jeong, a male lead in KBS2's teen drama School 2017, co-starring Guangzhou's Kim Se-jeong. Due to his increasing success, the series became extremely popular among youth. Critics and audiences applauded Kim's portrayal of a struggling and rebellious student. Best New Actor nominations at the 54th Baeksang Arts Awards, the 2017 KBS Drama Awards, and the 1st The Seoul Awards were among his honors.

Kim was also included in 4Men's Music Video Break Up In The Morning.

Kim was cast in a lead role in the KBS2 drama special Buzzcut Love later this year.

Kim appeared in JTBC's youth film Welcome to Waikiki in 2018, portraying a cynical yet kindhearted film producer. The series became very popular in Asia and solidified Kim's reputation as a versatile actor.

He appeared in the 4DX VR film Stay With Me, starring Seo Yea-ji, who played an aspiring singer with stage fright. Kim lent his vocals to the OST of the film titled Moonlight.

Later in MBC's Melodrama Time with Girls' Generation's Seohyun, a chaebol whose time is running out due to his waning health. Kim's earned acclaim for playing the drama's main character, a terminal patient with just months to live. Due to a "eating disorder and insomnia," he stopped halfway through the series.

Kim returned to television in December 2019 as part of the tvN romance drama Crash Landing on You alongside Hyun Bin, Son Ye-jin, and Seo Ji-hye. It was the highest-rated television drama and the third-highest-rated Korean drama in cable television history. Audiences applauded Kim's portrayal of Goo Seung-joon, Yoon Se-ri's former fiancé (Son Ye-jin) and Seo Dan's eventual love interest (Seo Ji-hye). His character's name, "Goo Seung-joon," went on to become a hit at No. 1 in the United States. One of Korea's top-time search results, which he later described in an interview as gratifying.

Kim made a cameo appearance in Seo Ji-hye's drama Dinner Mate, playing her long-term boyfriend in May 2020.

Kim will lead tvN's fusion sageuk drama, with Shin Hye-sun playing King Cheoljong on June 5, 2020. From December 2020 to February 2021, the drama aired. Mr. Queen was the seventh-highest-rated Korean drama and the fifth most rated tvN drama on record on February 15, 2021. Kim's complex portrayal of the two-faced King featured in the Korea Times, which included remarks that he left a "deep impression on viewers with a strong presence that took the center of the play." Kim performed his vocals on the album Like the First Snow, for which he also wrote the lyrics.

Kim signed with Story J Company in September 2021, followed by movie and drama casting news in 2022. Detective Lee Dong-geun will appear in an indie film called Se2cret in January 2022, his corporation announced that he would appear in January 2022.
