Victor Mugubi Wanyama (born 25 June 1991) is a Kenyan professional footballer who plays for the Kenyan national team, Tottenham Hotspur and captains. He scored his first goal in Celtic's 2–1 victory over Barcelona on November 7, 2012.
Wanyama retired from Southampton in 2013 for his first appearance for the Kenyan national team since joining Spartak Moscow at £9.5 million, surpassing the £9.5 million Russian club Spartak Moscow paid for Aiden McGeady in 2010.
Early life
Wanyama attended Kamukunji High School, which has a winning football team. He continued playing with JMJ Academy for three years after graduating from High School, and the Nairobi City Stars and AFC Leopards followed him. He joined Helsingborg in 2007 but after his brother McDonald Mariga's transfer to Serie A team Parma in 2008, Wanyama returned to Kenya.
Personal life
Wanyama comes from a sporting family. McDonald Mariga was also a professional footballer, while Thomas and Sylvester Wanyama, two of his siblings, are now footballers in the Kenyan Premier League. Club career
After a fruitful trial, Wanyama signed for Beerschot AC on a four-year deal in summer 2008. At the end of the 2008–2009 season, he made his first appearance in a League match. He was fined €100 and given a three-match suspension for a violent tackle on Matárez, Anderlecht, in September 2009.
Celtic attempted to sign Wanyama in the summer of 2010, but Beerschot refused to allow him to leave. CSKA Moscow, a Russian club, tried to sign him, but they were unsuccessful as well.
On Sunday, Wanyama scored his first goal for Beerschot, his first goal against Westerlo in 77th minutes. After video evidence showed he elbowed Brecht Dejaeghere of K.V., he received another three match suspension in April 2011. Kortrijk is a city in the Netherlands.
After the Scottish club had failed to sign Wanyama the previous year, the Scottish club finally won a £900,000 move to Celtic on July 9th. Wanyama's manager released a statement on October 25th, claiming that he had turned down an improved deal with Celtic, implying that his salary demands could not be satisfied by the club amid rumors of envy from clubs in England. Celtic stunned Barcelona in the Champions League group stage on Saturday, beating them 2–1 at Celtic Park on Monday, with Wanyama opening the scoring with a spectacular header.

Wanyama came into his own in the 2014-15 season under new owner Ronald Koeman. In a 1–0 league victory over Swansea City over the weekend in the 69th minute, he scored his first goal for the club. On October 19, 2014, he scored in an 8–0 trouncing of Sunderland. In what was the only goal in a victory over Hull City, Wanyama would score his third goal for the Saints in spectacular fashion, a 40-yard shot after Eldin Jakupovi's poor clearance fell straight to him.
