Vernee Christell Watson-Johnson (née Watson; born September 28, 1949) is an American actress, writer, actor, and acting coach.

Watson-Johnson is best known for her appearances on Welcome Back, Kotter (1975–79) and on Viola "Vy" Smith on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1990–96), as Vanessa "Vy" Smith, playing Will Smith's mother.

Dee Dee appeared on Hanna-Barbera's animated film Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels.

She appeared in a NCIS episode (Season 14, Episode 2: "Being Bad").

Early life

Vernee Christell Watson was born in New York City on September 28, 1949, where she was also raised. She received a major in drama from Cathedral High School and New York University. She began her career as a teenager with the Al Fann Theatrical Ensemble in Manhattan at the age of 17 and would tour with the group for five years.

Personal life

Watson-Johnson has been married twice. Joe Duckett's first marriage was from 1976 to 1977, and she was last married to photographer Van Johnson from 1979 to 1991. Sunde Jinia Johnson, a Watson-Johnson b. Josh, 1983) and his uncle, Alex (b. Johnson, 1987. Watson-Johnson was a witness in Michael Jackson's child molestation lawsuit in 2005.

In the 1972 film Trick Baby, Watson-Johnson played Blue's love interest. Denise Willums, Alex Harrigan's secretary, was also a regular cast member of Foley Square, 1985-1986, and Margaret Colin was also a regular cast member. She appeared on Sister, Sister as Lisa's (Jacké Harry) best friend Patrice (Jacké Harry) and as the mayor's secretary on Carter Country, Lucille Banks. On The Young and the Restless, she appeared on "Birdie" as a regular character. She appeared in the film Christmas with the Kranks in 2005. Watson-Johnson has appeared on television shows as The Love Boat, Hill Street Blues, Married... with Children, L.A. Law, Suddenly Susan, Dharma & Greg, The X-Files, ER, Days of Our Lives, Watson in the Middle, CSI: Dexter, Two and a Half Men, Southland, Criminal Minds, A.N.T.
