Professional career

Martirosyan turned pro at 154 pounds with Bob Arum's promotion firm Top Rank at the age of 20. Serge Martirosyan, Vanes' uncle, is in charge of the operation. Shelly Finkel, who also oversees and advises world champions such as Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko, Evander Holyfield, Manny Pacquiao, and others, is co-managed.

Freddie Roach, who was named 2003 and 2006 Trainer of the Year by the Boxing Writers Association of America, was trained by Vanes. Manny Pacquiao and Julio César Chávez, Jr., are among Roach's best students, including Manny Pacquiao and Julio César Chávez, Jr., Jr., who trains with him.

Martirosyan has also worked with Ronnie Shields, winning his first fight under Shields' tutelage when he knocked out Dan Wallace in a one round.

Martirosyan then won by a landslide unanimous verdict over Clarence Taylor, as well as wins over Billy Lyell (who would later topple previously undefeated John Duddy), Harrison Tsurkan, and Willie Lee.

Martirosyan was set to make his HBO debut in Yankee Stadium on June 5, 2010. The Miguel Cotto vs. Yuri Foreman undercard was scheduled. Joe Greene, a undefeated prospect, defeated him (22-0, 14 KOs). Greene suffered his first loss of his career as a result of a unanimous decision. Martirosyan won by this means, moving to 28–0 with 17 victories coming by way of knockout.

Vanes made his second appearance in the Ring at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, on March 19, 2011. In the second round, he was able to defeat Mexican Bladimir Hernandez by a KO.

In a WBC semi-final title eliminator for the vacant WBC Silver Light Middleweight Championship, his next fight was against veteran Sal Román. In HBO's televised portion of the Julio César Chávez, Jr. vs. Sebastian Zbik undercard, the match took place on June 4, 2011. Román knocked Vanes down in the first round and gave him a difficult challenge in the upcoming two. Martirosyan came back in the fourth and fifth positions. Román cornered Vanes against the wires and landed many blows as the seventh round began. Vanes may have caught Román just in time from being stopped. Vanes tied Román against the ropes and knocked him down in the same round. After Román got up, Vanes landed a hard right hook on his chest and followed it with a barrage of blows while Román was leaning on the ropes, causing the brawl, turning what seemed to be near-defeat into victory.

Vanes defeated Richard Gutierrez, a 2011 Dodger. Vanes dominated from start to finish, winning a unanimous vote in ten rounds. The judges' scorecards were 100–90, 100-90, and 99–91; Vanes took only one round from one judge.

Martirosyan fought united Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, after being chosen as the late replacement for Canelo lvarez after the Canelo rematch was postponed due to his failed drug screenings for Clenbuterol. Martirosyan faced the undefeated middleweight champion with just three weeks of preparations and almost two years since his last professional fight. Despite doing better than expected in the first round of the tournament, Martirosyan eventually succumbered to Golovkin's strength and suffered a quick defeat in the 2nd round. Martirosyan expressed disappointment in his role in the post-war war, saying it felt like he was "being struck by a train." "It feels great to get a knockout," Golovkin said. Vanes is a tenacious fighter. In the first round, he caught me a few times. "I felt I was disqualified in the first round of the second round and think I did out all revenue." Canelo vs. Golovkin (Spain): From sparring partners to bitter adversaries

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 14, 2022
It's amazing to note that Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin, two bitter adversaries on the brink of a legendary trilogy match, were once amicable sparring partners. At the time, the two athletes only held two world titles, and with a weight class and an eight-year age difference separating them, perhaps no one would have predicted that a third grudge match would largely define their careers. Both fighters put their reputations on the line on Saturday night, performing on the Las Vegas stage once more, as the pound-for-pound stars restructured their bitter rivalry once and for all, or so we wish.
