Early life
Tyler Childers was born and raised in Lawrence County, Kentucky. His father worked in the coal industry, and his mother is a nurse. He learned to sing in the church choir where he performed. When he was 13, he began playing guitar and writing songs. He attended Paintsville High School, a nearby paintsville, Kentucky, where he graduated in 2009. Chris Stapleton (Staffordsville), Loretta Lynn, and Crystal Gayle both hail from Johnson County.
The students attended Western Kentucky University for a semester and then enrolled at Bluegrass Community and Technical College for a few semesters. He dropped out of college and worked odd jobs for a few years as he attempted to pursue a career in music.

Career
Childers first appeared in Lexington, Kentucky, and Huntington, West Virginia. Bottles And Bibles, Childers' first album, was released in 2011. He also recorded two EPs at Red Barn Radio, a Lexington radio station. Following the success of his album Purgatory, the two EPs were later released as one under the name Live on Red Barn Radio I & II, and they reached No. 1. 5 on Heatseekers Albums. The Food Stamps, he performed with a backing band.
Purgatory was his first success, his first album was released on August 4, 2017. Sturgill Simpson and David Ferguson produced the album, which was released in Nashville at The Butcher Shoppe. Simpsons also played guitar and performed backing vocals on the album, with Miles Miller on drums, Stuart Duncan on fiddle, and Russ Paul on other instruments. It debuted at No. 1 in the United States. No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart, no. On the country album chart, 17 are on the Top and No. 1st, with No. 13 and No. 17. On the Americana/Folk album chart, the number 4 is the best. Childers was named Emerging Artist of the Year in September 2018 at the American Music Awards, where he gave a welcome address that said that "I'm not an Americana" as a country music singer, and that it is a distraction from the problems that we're hearing more broadly as country music singers. Country Squire, a second album on the Hickman Holler label, and Childers' third overall, was announced on August 2, 2019, after being announced in May 2019. Simpson and Ferguson also made this album. On May 16, 2019, the lead single from the album "House Fire" was also released. At the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, the album's second single "All Your'n" was named for Best Country Solo Performance.
Childers' Long Violent History, a surprise album mainly of traditional fiddle tracks, was released on September 18, 2020. The album comes to an end with "Long Violent History," an original song that explores racial unrest and police brutality. He gave the song a video message in which he talked about his album's aspirations and the title track in particular, emphasizing compassion above all else. The video also states that 100% of the album's funds will be used to help underserved communities in the Appalachian area, thanks to the Childers' own Hickman Holler Appalachian Relief Fund.
