Thomas Gabriel Fischer Career

Career

Fischer (as "Tom Warrior"), along with Urs Sprenger (as "Steve Warrior") on bass and Pete Stratton (real name Peter Ebneter) on drums, formed the metal band Hammerhead in early 1982. Stratton was soon replaced by Bruce "Denial Fiend" Day (real name Jörg Neubart) and the band changed to Hellhammer the following year. Martin Eric Ain, a bassist and songwriter, appeared on Hellhammer and the lineup of Fischer, Ain, and Day in 1983, as well as a collection of demos for the German label Noise Records, before disbanding in May 1984. In June 1984, Fischer and Ain joined forces again to create Celtic Frost, an influential avant-garde and extreme metal band.

Fischer was invited by fellow Swiss firm Coroner to co-produce and perform on the first demo, titled Death Cult. Fischer also wrote the lyrics for the recorded songs. Two of Coroner's road crews served until 1986. Many internal tensions within Celtic Frost led to the band's dissolution in 1987.

Fischer reformed the band with a completely new lineup several months later. Cold Lake, the band's 1988 debut, marked a drastic change in Celtic Frost's music, but most fans were dissatisfied. Fischer has stated many times that he takes responsibility for Celtic Frost's music's derogative direction during this time because he was too involved with a personal relationship to allow the other band members to do what they wanted. Celtic Frost disbanded in 1993.

Fischer created Apollyon Sun, a year after Celtic Frost was laid to rest.

In 2000, Fischer's book Are You Morbid?

Several glowing reviews have been shared about Celtic Frost's Pandemonium: "Intelligent, humble, questioning, and insightful" was included in this collection.

Fischer and Martin Eric Ain met again and began writing music with the intention of releasing a new, dark, and heavy Celtic Frost album in the vein of their previous releases on To Mega Therion and Into the Pandemonium. Monotheist, the album's name, was eventually released in 2006.

Fischer appeared on "Big Sky," Dave Grohl's joint venture with several metal artists, in 2003.

Fischer's 2005 compilation "Black Magic" by Los Angeles-based gothic rock band Hatesex performed on vocal (performed by Martin Eric Ain) and guitar tracks (Erol Uenala). The track appeared on their debut album Unwant.

Fischer left the band on April 2nd, 2008, citing internal conflicts within Celtic Frost, and formed Triptykon, a new band.

He played guitars and bass for the opening song "Set the Controls for the Sun," a Norwegian black metal band) on the Black Flame's album Revelations of the Sun (a Norwegian black metal band), and also co-mixed the album in 2008. He co-produced their album Demonoir in 2009.

Fischer was named in the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards for Inspiration in 2010. Fischer was ranked No. 1 in the United States. Guitar World ranks 32 out of the 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Guitarists of All Time.

He currently plays an Ibanez H. R. Giger instrument called Iceman guitar. He also uses an Ibanez Tube Screamer overdrive pedal.

Fischer is a vegetarian. He also claims that he does not drink, smoke, or use opioids.

Fischer served as H. R. Giger's personal assistant from 2007 to his death. He was a close friend of Giger and his partner Carmen, and he continues to work for the Giger estate as well as as the Museum HR Giger's co-director.
