Conrad Lant Life

Conrad Thomas Lant (born 15 January 1963), also known as Cronos, is an English musician and performer.

He is the founding member of Venom, a thrash metal and black metal band, as well as occasional guitarist and occasional guitarist.

Early life

Conrad Lant, a member of a school band, became Mantas after appearing in a few high school bands; Dwarfstar and Album Graecum. The original bassist left a week before a church hall gig in 1979. Instead of playing the area, Cronos took up the bass and changed the band name to 'Venom.' Throughout his career in Venom, he continued to play the bass. Clive Archer (with stage name Jesus Christ) left the band in 1980, leaving Cronos to take over the lead and transforming the band into a three-piece unit.

After leaving school, Cronos was working in a recording studio, but the studio's name, 'Neat Records', was introduced and began signing bands from up and down the UK, selling singles and albums from 1980 to 2010. Cronos was able to convince the studio engineer that if he didn't have to work late after work and doing other unpaid jobs as the members of Venom were unable to afford the studio time fees. Several CD labels and also the rock press published several copies of the Venom demos, where a journalist for the 'Sounds' magazine [Geoff Barton] featured three Venom songs in his playlist, which attracted the attention of the label 'Neat Records', who later announced the first Venom single.

Cronos was also responsible for the creation and execution of all of the Venom logo and the sleeves artwork for their numerous single and album launches. He wanted to use the Sigil of Baphomet as the band's primary emblem, but he wanted to create a new and original design, so he started rebuilding it. The Venom logo was drawn and redrawn several times before he was content, and the logo's evolution can be seen from the band's numerous singles and albums as the logo has become more refined as the years progress. Cronos' logo continues to evolve, as Cronos continues to produce new versions for merchandise and other albums.

Venom took a break in 1988, and Cronos began performing in solo careers and occasionally appeared in several other bands of a similar style, including Cronos, Enthroned, Cradle of Filth (Cronos contributed a monologue to the end of the Cradle track "Haunted Shores" from their 1996 album "Under Fire), Warpath, Massacre, and Necrodeath. He has also produced some albums for other bands.

Cronos contacted the original guitarist and drummer in 1995 and reformed the original Venom lineup, where they headlined the Dynamo Festival in 1996. Venom tried to keep the original lineup members alive, but only managed to perform one show per year for the next few years. They had signed a three-album contract with CBH/Steamhammer in Germany, but some members did not want to continue, so they turned to the second album after Cast in Stone. Venom employed a stand-in drummer for their next album, Resurrection, which was warmly received by the critics, but the singers only managed to appear in two shows, Wacken and Holland.

Venom took another short break after Cronos was hurt in a climbing crash in 2004, but Cronos hired his 'Cronos band' guitarist 'Mykas' and began rebuilding the band's fame with the album Metal Black in 2006, a sold out UK tour, and four headline shows at major European festivals in 2004. With the release of the album Hell in 2008 and again touring to sell-out shows, Cronos replaced the guitarist with 'Rage,'Rage.' Venom performed at numerous festivals every year until 2009, with 'Dante' joining the band and debuting with a full South American tour. Cronos, Rage, and Dante's lineup is ten years old, with three albums including 2011's Fallen Angels, 2015's From the Very Depths, and 2018's Storm the Gates.

The band performed at the Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany and stage a one-off show in the Netherlands before being forced to take a break after Cronos was injured in a climbing crash in 2002, leaving him unable to play bass or sing for nearly two years. He went to the computer to pass the time and studied game design and game development, as well as designing and building gaming maps and internet connectivity via satellites, alongside company founder Scott Toward.

Around 2003, Cronos revived Venom by finding an unidentified basic nu-metal drummer and guitarist for a brief period of time, although he was looking for professional permanent musicians. Cronos had asked guitarist Mantas to rejoin the band, but he refused to return to Venom because he was playing in a new direction with his new band 'Zero Tolerance' and was on the verge of recording an album.

Venom's album, Metal Black, was released in early 2006 and embarked on a sold-out world tour after Cronos spent the next few years of planning and intense rehearsals. In the Gods of Metal 2006 in Italy, where they headlined, Venom performed the classic single "Die Hard" with Phil Anselmo (Pantera, Down). On HammerFall's 2005 album Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken, Cronos appeared on Dave Grohl's heavy metal side project Probot in 2004, and guest starred on HammerFall's Knights of the 21st Century.

Cronos contacted the original guitarist and drummer in 1995 and reformed the original Venom lineup, where they headlined the Dynamo Festival in 1996. He went back to the computer to pass the time and learned computer and games programming, as well as developing internet access via satellites.

Cronos reformed Venom around 2003, temporarily recruiting an unidentified basic nu-metal drummer and guitarist, because he wanted to help him jump start the band while looking for seasoned permanent musicians. Cronos had asked guitarist Mantas to resurface in the band, but he declined. In a statement on Blabbermouth, he said he'll never rejoin Venom as he was involved in a new direction with his new band 'Zero Tolerance,' and was working on an album.

Venom's album, Metal Black, was released in early 2006, after Cronos spent the next two years planning and executing, and they embarked on a sold-out world tour. In the Gods of Metal 2006 in Italy, where they headlined, Venom performed the classic single "Die Hard" alongside Phil Anselmo (Pantera, Down).
