"Debutant Taapsee is a promising find, and she complements the image of an Anglo-Indian girl to the T," Sify's editor wrote about her role. She made a foray into Malayalam cinema later this year, with Doubles (2011), opposite Mammootty and Nadiya Moidu. "Taapsee Pannu, the nexus of rivalry between the siblings, has nothing to do," Paresh C Palicha of Rediff said.

Pannu made her Hindi film debut in 2013, co-starring Siddharth, Rishi Kapoor, Divyendu Sharma, and Ali Zafar, in David Dhawan's Chashme Baddoor. It received unanimous critical feedback, but it became a box-office hit as a remake of the eponymous 1981 film. At the 2014 Edison Awards, she was named Most Enthusiastic Performer-Female for her role in the film.

Pannu was contacted by Shoojit Sircar for the courtroom drama Pink while filming for Running Shaadi. She was "curious and excited" about the issue, "not" being concerned with head-on in mainstream cinema." Amitabh Bachchan, Kirti Kulhari, and Andrea Tariang all appeared in the film, and three girls were fought for molestation against a politician's nephew. The film and Pannu's performance have received rave reviews. Pannu, alongside other two women, "deliver natural performances as strong yet emotionally fragile women, without a hint of affectation," Rajeev Masand said. Pink emerged as a commercial success with worldwide sales of 1.08 billion (US$14 million). Pannu later said that the film was a turning point in her career.

Running Shaadi, Pannu's first film release of 2017, was the romance comedy in which she played a Punjabi girl who assists couples in eloping to get married. The film received mixed reviews, but the actress praised her acting. It was followed by the naval war drama The Ghazi Attack, which was based on PNS Ghazi's unexplained sinking during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War. The film was shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi and also at the box-office, and it did marginally well at the box office. After Pannu's seven-eight minute sequence in the role of special agent Shabana Khan in Baby, the actor was well-received, he "decided to give the story a life an arc." Pannu played in the spin-off Naam Shabana. She trained in various aspects of mixed martial arts such as Kd and Krav Maga for the role. Both the film and Pannu's performance received mixed feedback, with Sarita A. Tanwar of Daily News and Analysis noting that she is "most lovable" in every scene, and Udita Jhunjhunwala of Mint's Udita Jhunwala saying that she is "not likable" in the film. In the action-comedy Judwa 2, Pannu's subsequent appearances were of a ghost and the protagonist's girlfriend. The latter, which was a remake of the 1997 namesake film, was a commercial hit, grossing over $2.2 billion (US$25 million).

Shaad Ali's sports drama Soorma, which was based on the life of field hockey player Sandeep Singh (played by Diljit Dosanjh), was her sequel to her father's football drama Soorma. Soorma became a financial success despite mixed reviews. In Anubhav Sinha's Mulk, Pannu then depicted a lawyer. Pannu said that the film portrays genuine patriotism and nationalism without taking sides. Pannu's appearance was lauded by Nandini Ramnath of Scroll as one of the film's "strong turns"; she was given a Filmfare Award for Best Actress (Critics) nomination.

Pannu played Rumi Bagga, a free-spirited girl trapped in a love triangle in Anurag Kashyaan's romantic drama Manmarziyaan, alongside Abhishek Bachchan and Vicky Kaushal, after playing an antagonist in the Telugu action thriller Neevevaro. Pannu's appearance at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival premiered to a soaring critical reception. "Really to be a woman on a warpath," Anupama Chopra described her appearance as "mercurial and mysterious and maddening." She appeared in two short films in the same year: Baarish aur Chowmein and Nitishastra.

Pannu had a number of launches in 2019, the first one being Sujoy Ghosh's mystery thriller Badla, which was a official remake of the 2016 Spanish film The Invisible Guest. It was also her second time working with Amitabh Bachchan. She was initially offered a supporting role, and the film had a male lead. Pannu begged the producer to have the lead role played by a female, which he agreed to and gave her the opportunity. Badla received glowing reviews, as did Pannu's as Naina Sethi, a shrewd businesswoman. Film critic Namrata Joshi wrote an article about Pannu, saying the film had good box-office results; it was good.

In the psychological thriller Game Over, directed by Ashwin Saravanan, Pannu then explored the role of a game designer who uses a wheelchair and fights a home invasion. In Tamil and Telugu terms, the film was shot simultaneously. Pannu had to be in a wheelchair for ten days during filming. The film and her actress were lauded; Saibal Chatterjee said that Pannu "is never less convincing" and that "may be the primary reason why you should not bother watching this film."

In Mission Mangal, India's first interplanetary mission, the Mars Orbiter Mission, she played an ISRO scientist. Pannu liked the prospect of a space film starring many leading ladies. Mission Mangal was Pannu's highest financial success, with a worldwide collection of over 2.9 billion (US$36 million). Tushar Hiranandani's biographical film Saand Ki Aankh, co-starring Bhumi Pednekar, was her year's best film of the year. Pannu portrayed Prakashi Tomar, one of the world's oldest sharpshooters for which she underwent three months of preparation in pistol shootings. Both Pannu and Pednekar succeed in "delivering similarly tuned, sensitive performances," Anna M. Vetticad writes. Pannu and Pednekar were named Best Actress by the Filmfare Critics Award.

Pannu's sole release of 2020 was Anubhav Sinha's social drama Thappad, in which she appeared in the role of Amrita, a home-maker who files for divorce after her husband slaps her. The actress said that the character's "righteousness, her maturity, and her ability to deal with every situation" made her suffocate. Critical praise was given to the film and Pannu's performance. Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express said she "drives the film but the effort she puts into her performance shows." Pannu was given the Filmfare Award for Best Actress and the Best Actress nomination, as well as the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress.

Haseen Dillruba, Vikrant Massey's first publication of 2021, was Pannu's first murder mystery. On Netflix, the film premiered on July 2021 and became the most watched Hindi film of the year. Both the film and Pannu's performances were nevertheless poorly received by critics, with Rohan Naahar from Hindustan Times calling it a "hot mess" and describing it as "illogical" and "ill-conceived" while adding that "Pannu's appearance as a bored housewife named Rani is all over the place." "Pannu's delivery in her films remains the same, only the costume changes," film critic Shubhra Gupta of Indian Express said.

She then appeared in the Tamil-language horror film Annabelle Sethupathi opposite Vijay Sethupathi. Rashmi Rocket, the year's best-selling film, told the tale of an Indian track and field athlete who was undergoing gender testing after being diagnosed with hyperandrogenism. “Pannu never proves her mettle,” Ronak Kotecha of The Times of India said. Rashmi's victory and recovery from her illness is as real as it gets, and the actress doesn't disappoint the crowd when it comes to making us root for her character."

Pannu appeared in Looop Laoop Lamenta, the official remake of the 1998 German film Run Lola Run, which premiered on Netflix on February 4th, 2022.

She starred in Mishan Impossible, directed by Swaroop RSJ in July 2021. After Anando Brahma's debut in 2017, it's her comeback film in Telugu's film industry.
