Career
Tisch made a few small films with Columbia Pictures backing during his youth. He left Columbia in 1976 and made his first feature film, Outlaw Blues. He continued this up in 1983 with Risky Company, which gave Tom Cruise his first lead role.
Tisch made The Burning Bed, a made-for-TV film from 1984, but it received eleven Emmy nominations for Farrah Fawcett's depiction of a battered wife. Tisch formed the Steve Tisch Company in 1986, which has since specialized in small screen films. The company had a two-picture deal with New World Pictures, with Soul Man being the first film of a proposed two-picture contract. Warner Bros. produced several projects at the studio in 1987, including the rights to the Mr. Magoo character (the project was eventually produced by Disney as a live-action film), as well as three original projects for the company, through Steve Tisch Productions. However, he has released several critically acclaimed films, including Forrest Gump, American History X, and Snatch. Tisch was nominated for 13 Academy Awards and won six, and is now one of the best domestic box office grossing films in history. In addition, he is the only one with a Golden Globe, an Academy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award nomination, and a Super Bowl Ring.
He is now a partner in Escape Artists, a Sony Pictures Entertainment-owned film production company headquartered in Los Angeles that is the result of a merger between his Steve Tisch Company and Todd Black and Jason Blumenthal's production company, Black & Blu. In the fall of 2005, Escape Artists released The Weather Man, starring Nicolas Cage, and The Pursuit of Happiness, starring Will Smith, was released by Columbia Pictures in December 2006. Will Smith's Seven Pounds, Knowing, starring Nicolas Cage, and The Taking of Pelham 123 starring Denzel Washington and John Travolta are among the many ongoing projects. Perpetual Grace, LTD., for Epix and Servant, starring Nell Tiger Free on Apple TV+, is among the company's television shows.
Tisch was named P.T. in 2007. Tufts University has given him the Barnum Award for his outstanding service in the field of media and entertainment.
In 2005, Tisch was named chairman and Executive Vice President of the New York Giants American football team. When the Giants captured Super Bowl XLII and then when they won Super Bowl XLVI, Tisch accepted the Vince Lombardi Trophy twice. Tisch, the Giants' Super Bowl champion, and the rest of the Giants' team and administration were invited by President Bush to the White House on April 30, 2008.
In season 5, Tisch appeared on the reality show Shark Tank for the fifth time.
After John Mara was reportedly able to give Judge a third year following the 2021 season, the Giants defeated John Mara 4-13.
