Sean Covel (born March 4, 1976) is an American film director best known for his film work on Napoleon Dynamite.

Early life

Covel grew up in Edgemont, South Dakota, and studied at the University of Nebraska, Kearney, majoring in Broadcast Management with a minor in acting. Covel began working as a headhunter in San Francisco and then opened his own business before returning to film making. Covel received a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, Peter Stark Producing Program, where he teaches regularly.

Covel was married to actress Alexa Vega from 2010 to 2012.

Career

Covel began working on Think Tank after college. He joined the team in 2003 and produced Napoleon Dynamite, which received critical acclaim. They were nominated for the producer award at the 20th Independent Spirit Awards for his and Chris Wyatt's film work.

12 Dogs of Christmas, Beneath, Carter & June, and Cafe are among Covel's film credits.
