Scott Mosier Life

Scott A. Mosier (born March 5, 1971) is a Canadian-American film director, film editor, podcaster, and actor best known for his collaboration with actor Kevin Smith, with whom he co-hosts the weekly podcast SModcast.

Early life

Mosier was born in Vancouver, Washington, and migrated between British Columbia and Washington as an infant. As his father John was born in Saskatchewan, Canada, he has dual Canadian and American citizenship. He grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia, as a youth.

When both were attending Vancouver Film School in Canada, Mosier met Kevin Smith. Mae Day, a Documentary's First Assignment, was a student film documentary that fell apart in production. Smith and Mosier talked to the crew about the demise of the very film they had been trying to produce. They also included a segment in which the two characters were shown in silhouette as they outlined their fictional thoughts.

Smith dropped out four months into the eight-month program, but not before making a commitment with Mosier: each will start writing a script of his own, and the one who came last would assist the other in his film.

Personal life

Mosier was personally involved with fellow producer Monica Hampton, whom he met while making Vulgar. On September 1, 2006, he married Alex Hilebronner. The two met on the set of Jersey Girl.

He claims he is agnostic in the film Back to the Well: Clerks II, but he has been to church with Kevin Smith on occasion.

Scott Mosier Career

Career

Clerks, Mosier, Smith's first feature film, shot the original sound on location, edited the film (at RST Video), and contributed to the budget. He also contributed by appearing on screen as several characters, including the enraged hockey player and Willam Black (Snowball).

Mosier, a 1995 film, helped with budget planning alongside line producer Laura Greenlee, but he was presiding over a much larger crew. Roddy, Svenning's assistant, was depicted in the film. The character appeared on a Jay and Silent Bob MTV short film.

On the 1997 romantic comedy film Chasing Amy, Mosier, and Smith, with Miramax's Harvey Weinstein and Bob Weinstein, agreed to reduce the initial budget from $3 million to $250,000. Mosier and Kevin were able to cast their friends instead of established actors as a result of the deal. Mosier appears in the film as the comedic convention patron who is embroiled in a feud with Banky Edwards (Jason Lee) after demeaning his career as a tracer.

Mosier worked with Greenlee on the 1999 film Dogma; the film's production took almost a year. On the bus, he appeared as the Smooching Seaman, and Ben Affleck and Matt Damon met.

Mosier directed Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back in 2001, and they did not have a budget of $20 million. Due to the MPAA's threat to give the film an NC-17 rating, the editing was difficult. Mosier played the assistant director on the set of Good Will Hunting's fictional sequel and revisits his Willam Black character from Clerks in the film.

Mosier had a significantly higher budget to work with on the film Jersey Girl, which cost the company $35 million. Following Gigli's poor box-office results, the editing was also difficult due to the studio's desire to cut a substantial portion of Jennifer Lopez footage with Ben Affleck.

Clerks II was produced by Mosier in 2006. Smith said he edited Clerks II, one of three films that Mosier has made with Smith, but not edited (the others being Mallrats and Zack and Miri Make a Porno). Mosier appears in a brief cameo as a worried father who shields his daughter's eyes from the sight of a character on a toilet.

Mosier worked with Smith again in 2008 on Zack and Miri Make a Porno.

Mosier appeared as an executive producer, editor, and actor for Bryan Johnson's Vulgar, an Askew film. He had also worked as a producer on Drawing Flies, A Better Place, and Clerks: The Animated Series; he was also a co-executive producer on Good Will Hunting and Big Helium Dog. Larry was also seen in cameos in Drawing Flies as the Crying Diaperman, in A Better Place as Larry, and as Scotty in Vulgar as Scotty. Although Mosier barely recorded any episodes in 2017, he and Smith co-host of the Smith-owned SModcast podcast hosted by Smith and Smith.

Salim Baba, a short documentary by Mosier, was nominated for an Academy Award in 2007. Tim Sternberg and Francisco Bello received the award (Mosier was unable to be nominated due to a lack of two nominees per short film).

Mosier revealed on SModcast 77 that he would not produce Smith's film Cop Out (2010) but rather concentrate on his debut. On SModcast 90, he finished writing his first feature screenplay and was trying to sell it.

Mosier revealed on Twitter on August 10, 2011 that he had written some episodes of Disney's Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon. This was revealed in a special "SModcast Extra" (attached to SModcast No. 1). 204 and episode 5 of the Comic Book Men podcast "Secret Stash"), in which Joe Casey and Smith talk to Joe Casey; Mosier has written six scripts for the series.

Mosier made his directorial debut with Illumination Entertainment's animated film The Grinch, based on Dr. Seuss' book and co-directed with Yarrow Cheney. It was announced on November 9, 2018.
