Stephen Marcus (born Stephen Mark Scott, 18 June 1962) is a British actor best known for his role as Nick the Greek in the film Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels.

Personal life

Marcus is married to Sarah and has two small dogs, Fry and Ronnie. He has two main interests: golf and American Football, the latter of which he played and taught.

Marcus spent time in the United Kingdom for the Sussex Thunder in the BAFL One team, and he retired at the end of the 2007 season. Following the Thunder's 2007 match against the Ipswich Cardinals, he was consulted for Sky Sports' Sunday NFL coverage. The interview, which was televised on October 21, 2007, discussed his acting career as well as American Football. Marcus has been an offensive line coach for the London Olympians and the Valley Trojans.

Career

Marcus became an actor in 1984 after three years of teaching at Arts Educational Schools in London; he spent the first six months of his career in Robin Hood & The Tree Trick, followed by his first film appearance as Moose in the cult film My Beautiful Laundrette.

Marcus joined the cast of fledgling comedy Birds of a Feather as Dave, Sharon's lover (Pauline Quirke) after a few years working in theatre, film, and supporting roles on television.

Marcus was introduced by director Peter Chelsom after a year of being in commercials. In Hear My Song, Chelsom portrays him right away as Gordon, opposite Ned Beatty. Following this were scenes on British television, including roles in shows including The Hot Dog Wars, Dangerfield, Class Act, Kavanagh QC, and Our Friends in the North. Marcus' film career was also progressing, with roles opposite Timothy Dalton in The Beautician and the Beast, Robert Englund in Savage Hearts, and Richard Harris in Savage Hearts.

Marcus' agent arranged a meeting for a small low-budget film starring Guy Ritchie, a then-unknown filmmaker; Ritchie gave Marcus the role of Nick the Greek in Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels alongside Nick Moran, Vinnie Jones, Jason Statham, and Matthew Vaughn. The film was released three years ago and met with a great deal of success.

Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels all got further into film roles. Marcus played a small part in Alan Parker's Ashes, alongside Kate Winslet, Michael Caine, Joaquin Phoenix, and Geoffrey Rush; for Richard Eyre, he appeared in Complete Female Stage Beauty, directed by Bill Paxton; and he appeared in The Greatest Game Ever Played.

Marcus played in several American, Canadian, and UK television series, including Rudolpho De Luna's; he appeared in numerous television shows; he appeared in Terry Pratchett's Hogfather and The Colour of Magic, respectively; and Marcus appeared in several British, Canadian, and British television series; he appeared in two decades of "Casu"; and later in Larkrise to Candleford. Marcus has also worked on two Wachowski films: Speed Racer and Ninja Assassin.

Marcus appeared in five feature films in 2012: It's A Lot, Two Days in the Smoke, Gridiron UK, AB Negative, and Fast & Furious 6. He completed filming for independent British gangster drama Two Days in the Smoke, in which he played hitman Ben alongside Snatch actor Alan Ford and Matt Di Angelo from BBC Hustle in April 2012. In his second film, Smoke Director Ben Pickering, Ben Pickering portrayed him as the vengeful Max. Welcome to Curiosity, a British psychological thriller, will be released in the United States and Canada on May 25.

Marcus began a new Gangster London walking tour in July 2012, in which he delved into the East End's dark past. Along with Luke Goss, he appeared in Perry Bhandal's Interview with a Hitman (2012) as Traffikant, a Romanian Crime Boss.

In a BBC radio version of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere, adapted by Dirk Maggs, Marcus played Varney, Homeless man, Letting Agent & First Guard.
