Life and career
Soyou was born in Jeju Island, South Korea, on February 12, 1992. She was a registered hairdresser and worked in a hair salon before debuting. Soyou was supposed to debut as a member of 4Minute when he was first introduced as a Cube Entertainment apprentice. Soyou has said that she didn't make it into the company because she was missing in several ways and was originally supposed to be in Sohyun's position. Soyou auditioned for Starship Entertainment, singing a cover of Navi's "On The Road"; and after her traineeship, she debuted as a member of Sistar in June 2010. Since the debut of their hit single "So Cool" in 2011, the group has gained a lot of attention.
Soyou worked with Kan Jongwoo of J2 in August 2010 for the movie Gloria. She performed also on a soundtrack for MBC's drama Playful Kiss in September. "Should I Confess" is the song's title.
Soyou performed a duet with hip-hop duo Geeks in November 2012. "Officially Missing You, Too" is Tamia's spinoff of Tamia's song of the same name. It's a part of Geeks' Re;Code Episode 1, which is a part of Geeks' project album Re;Code Episode 1. Soyou unveiled the first part of her solo album Re:Born on December 13, starring rapper duo Geeks and produced by Primary.
Soyou published "Gotta Go" on June 28, 2020, a year and nine months since her last appearance. The song is a reggaeton, dance hall style song, and it was followed by a YouTube video from Starship Entertainment's YouTube channel.
Soyou is gearing up for her return to Soyou on March 11, 2021, after eight months. According to reports, Soyou's latest song "Good Night My Love" was written by Lee Hyori and composed by Babylon.
Soyou decided not to renew her Starship Entertainment contract on September 8. Soyou signed with BPM Entertainment on September 29, then BPM Entertainment.
Soyou will host her first solo concert 'THE LIVE: NIGHT' on March 2, 2022, by BPM Entertainment. Soyou's third EP, Day & Night, debuted on April 27, 2022, starring Be'O.
