Siya,
Early life
Siya was born in Barstow, California, to an African American father and a Puerto Rican mother, and she had three siblings. Siya was sentenced to live with her grandmother who raised her in the Eleanor Roosevelt housing projects in Bedford–Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, owing to her mother's heroin use and her imprisoned father. Siya began rapping at the age of seven and then ventured into the music business at the age of 12. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, a rap group, was Siya's childhood idol. "What I loved about them was how melodic their music was and that they tried different shit," she says.
Musical career
Siya's music became an outlet for her to investigate and cope with the things she was exposed to and feeling. She gathered a fan base for herself and attracted the attention of well-known artists and major labels in Atlanta as a teenager pursuing her music career in her mid-twenties. Siya had a lot of challenges early in her career due to her being one of the first openly gay female rappers. Though some in the industry were concerned about how an openly gay female rapper would fit into the niche, Siya stayed strong and refused to compromise who she was and kept true to her own voice and style.
Tank quickly found Siya on Twitter and found her on Twitter, and from there, she was signed to Tank's name R&B Money LLC. In 2011, Siya released her singles: "I'm Gone," "Smoke Drink," and mixtape Elevator Dreams.
In 2014, Siya released her singles "One Hunnid" and "Real MVP" on her own. She released a mixtape titled Better Late Than Never and What Never Happened in 2015. On December 9, 2016, she would debut her debut studio album SIYAvsSIYA. With the album's debut single being "New York," there were collaborations with musicians such as Ashley Rose, Jake&Papa, Lyric Wright, and Kreesha Turner.
