Simon Merrells Career

Career

In 2007, Merrells appeared with his brother Jason in a production of The Comedy of Errors, playing twins.

Merrells has collaborated with director Steven Berkoff, first on a world tour of the play Coriolanus. Terry Malloy appeared in On the Waterfront, directed by Berkoff, in 2009. According to Variety, "compact and bristling with contained energy, Simon Merrells has the right physical appearance to play Terry, but he never fully emerges from Brando's long shadow; the Independent says he "brings his own brand of studied vulnerability and sullen pride to the role."

Merrells appeared in Much Ado About Nothing at the Liverpool Playhouse in 2007, and in another Berkoff performance in the same venue in 2011. He had been nominated for the Best Actor Award for his role. Later that year, he portrayed detective Philip Marlowe in The Big Sleep, but The Stage said he was "a touch too suave and slick."

As DSO Griggs, Family Affairs (as bouncer Conrad Williams), and Merseybeat, he has appeared on television in London's Burning as DSO Griggs, Family Affairs (as bouncer Conrad Williams).

Merrells appeared in the 2009 film Invisible Eyes, a leading role. In a Ben Talbot remake of The Wolfman, he portrayed Ben Talbot, Lawrence Talbot's brother. In the Starz series Spartacus: War of the Damned, he portrayed Roman commander Marcus Licinius Crassus. In preparation for the role, he had to stick to a strict diet and a four-week fitness boot camp, losing 21 pounds. In addition, Mark Vega appeared in the British horror film Judas Ghost earlier this year. In the 2013 American remake of The Tomorrow People, he also plays The Founder.

Merrells appeared in a small sci-fi film named Index Zero as Kurt, a main character, and two films in 2015, Billionaire Ransom (originally titled Take Down) and Victrix. Merrells appeared as Julian in the Syfy channel series Dominion as a dyad. Merrells appeared in a futuristic short film The Leap, a search agent whose job it is to stop people from being trafficked on an international basis. Merrells appeared in the History channel's series Knightfall, which premiered in the United States in December 2017.
