Sharna May Burgess (born 21 June 1985) is an Australian ballroom dancer best known for her role as a professional partner and troupe member on ABC's Dancing with the Stars.

Early life
Burgess was born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia, to Ray and Lucy Burgess. Despite being a tomboy, Burgess discovered a passion for dance. As an infant, she was active in many sports and various styles of dance. She began training in ballet, jazz, and gymnastics at the age of five. She began studying ballroom at age eight, and she went on to win a number of local and national titles. She was selected to represent Australia in both the Standard and Latin styles at the World Championships in 2000, and in the 2000 Summer Olympics Closing Ceremonies.
Personal life
Burgess discovered a small tear in her knee ligaments after her appearance in the World Championships semi-finals. She insisted on completing the competition rather than taking immediate action. Because she ripped two ligaments in half and lost all of the meniscus in one knee, she needed knee ligament reconstruction surgery.

Career
Burgess went to London, where she gained many awards and appeared in a UK tour with the show Simply Ballroom at the age of 18. Jason Gilkison, a ballroom choreographer, gave her a spot on Burn the Floor's tour. She was in the cast for six years. When the show first debuted on Broadway, Burgess was a member of the Burn the Floor cast.
Burgess' first television appearances on the Australian Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance in Belgium and the Netherlands were on the Australian Dancing With the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance. She appeared on season 13 of Dancing with the Stars as a cast member. During her time on the stage, she also assisted So You Think You Can Dance choreographer Jason Gilkison with So You Think You Can Dance on both the Australian and American versions of the performance. She stayed on the show until the end of season 15. Burgess was promoted to regular pro for season 16 and was partnered with Andy Dick.
