Saranga Disasekara was born in Kalubowila, Sri Lanka, on January 31 to musician Narada Disasekara, and radio host and actress Tileka Ranasinghe. He attended Thurstan College in Colombo and graduated from Northumbria University, Newcastle. Douglas Ranasinghe of Saranga is also a well-known artist in Sri Lanka.
He went back to work and minor cinema acting after completing computer science for his higher education.
He was married to award-winning Sri Lankan actress Umali Thilakarathne, but they were divorced. Dinakshie Priyasad, a Sri Lankan actress, married Saranga, who welcomed their daughter Saranya Disasekara on September 26, 2021.
