Edward George Skrein (born 29 March 1983) is an English actor and singer.

He is best known for his appearances in Daario Naharis in Game of Thrones' third season, Frank Martin Jr. in Deadpool, and as the cocky hunter warrior Zapan in Alita: Battle Angel.

Early life

Skrein was born in Camden, England, and was educated in Haringey and Islington, London's two other boroughs. He is of English and Austrian Jewish descent. Skrein attended Fortismere High School. He graduated from Byam Shaw School of Art, a public tertiary art college, with a BA Hons degree in fine art painting.

Personal life

Skrein has been a swimming coach for Greenwich Leisure Limited since being 12 years old, with stints in Caledonian Road Pool, Gym, and Archway Pool.

Skrein unveiled a three-track EP in 2004 under the name Dented Records. In 2007, he unveiled The Eat Up, his first album. International Beggars, Asian Dub Foundation, Plan B, Dubbledge, and Doc Brown have all worked with him. Pre-Emptive Nostalgia, Skrein's joint EP, was unveiled later this year, as part of the group A State of Mind. Skreintax was launched in 2009 by Skreinin, a rapper from Dr. Syntax to bring the collaborative album Scene Stealers together.

Skrein made his acting debut in Plan B's short film Michelle. Skrein was the first lead actor in Plan B's Ill Manors. In the third season of Game of Thrones, Skrein portrayed Daario Naharis. However, he was later replaced by Dutch actor Michiel Huisman in the fourth season of the series. Skrein claims that it was not his decision to leave the show because it was not his intention. Skrein was cast in The Transporter: Refueled in 2014, replacing Jason Statham as the lead. Despite the fact that the film was critical, his performance was lauded. In the blockbuster action film Deadpool, Skrein played Ajax as the lead villain. Skrein also appeared in the 2017 'Eye Contact' music video starring Ocean Wisdom as the bad guy.

Skrein appeared in In Darkness, a psychological revenge drama starring Natalie Dormer and Stacy Martin in 2018; principal photography began in early 2016. Ben Daimio, a Japanese-American actor, was supposed to appear in the Hellboy reboot as a Japanese-American actor, but Skrein revealed on Twitter that he was stepping down from the role in the hopes of a Japanese-American actor.

He appeared in Roland Emmerich's blockbuster film Midway, co-starring Mandy Moore, Patrick Wilson, Luke Evans, Aaron Eckhart, Nick Jonas, Dennis Quaid, and Woody Harrelson on November 8th, 2019.

Skrein appeared in I Used to Be Famous in 2022. Leslie Felperin, a Guardian reporter, gave the film 3/5 stars, describing it as a "sweet-natured but predictable comedy drama."

Skrein made his directorial debut by directing and writing the short drama film Little River Run, which was released on July 20, 2020.
