The Merseyside flat turned into a fantasy world by its VERY artistic tenant: Semi-detached house with minotaur fireplace, a Roman altar in the kitchen and painted Greek murals floor-to-ceiling is given Grade II listing

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 5, 2024
Volunteers stepped in to save a cottage in Oxton, Merseyside, after being inspired by ancient Greece and ancient Egypt. Following Historic England's advice, Mr Gittins' work has become the first example of Outsider Art, a term used for jobs without conventional education, to be awarded Grade II by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. Fireplaces in the shape of a lion and a minotaur were displayed in the kitchen, and Egyptian, Greek, and marine murals were painted from floor to ceiling. Mr Gittins only accepted a handful of people inside, but when niece Jan Williams visited the house after his death in 2019, she dedicated herself to saving the house, referred to as Ron's Place.

As a railway station where George Stephenson's Locomotion No. 1 engine was installed on the rails in 1825, it has been given upgraded status

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 28, 2023
It's a tale that repeats every day on Britain's train network: carriages are so crowded that people are packed in like sardines. The passengers on the first journey on a public railway in 1825 were all the same, but the conditions were the same for them. At least twice as many people than the 300 who had bought tickets were reported to have packed in to carriages being pulled by George Stephenson's Locomotion No. 1 (depicted main and inset), at Heighington (bottom right, 1920s), County Durham, for the nine-mile ride to Darlington. Heighington is thought to be the world's first railway station, and has since been given priority over the construction of the Stockton & Darlington Railway. The building was originally listed as Grade II in 1980, but it has since been designated as'special interest' to 'particularly significant', indicating that it has gone from being regarded with'special concern' to'most significant' status.
