Sara Ali Khan Career

Career

Khan's debut came in 2018 with Abhishek Kapoor's romantic film Kedarnath, in which she played a Hindu girl who falls in love with a Muslim porter, played by Sushant Singh Rajput. Khan increased her Hindi vocabulary with the support of Rajput as she prepares for her role. With praise directed to Khan's achievement, Kedarnath received mixed feedback. Kunal Guha of Mumbai Mirror found it to be a rehash of 1980s Hindi films but applauded Khan's performance: "If her Mukku is angry, hopeful, scared, or coltish, she often describes it through her eyes alone, giving us a glimpse of the many faces she can wear." Daily News and Analysis's Meena Iyer referred to her as "spectacular." Kedarnath emerged as a commercial success with a gross of over 960 million Indian Rupees. Khan was given the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut and the IIFA Award for Female Debut of the Year.

A few weeks after the debut of Kedarnath, Khan appeared in Rohit Shetty's action film Simmba, which was loosely based on Telugu-language film Temper (2015). When filming of Kedarnath was temporarily suspended, she began working on it. Abhishek Kapoor suing Khan, but the pair later decided to divide her time between both films out of court. Ronak Kotecha, a film reviewer for The Times of India, opined that Khan had "nothing to do besides being stunning" and wished that the chemistry between her and Singh was lacking. Simmba released its third highest-grossing Hindi film of the year with worldwide earnings of 4 billion (US$50 million).

In Imtiaz Ali's romantic drama Love Aaj Kal (2020), a spiritual successor to Ali's 2009 film of the same name, Khan appeared as a young woman with a troubled past, opposite Kartik Aaryan. Nandini Ramnath of Scroll.in said that Khan "simply doesn't have the experience or expertise" to play a complicated character, and that "having a camera shoved into her teenage face only magnifies her shortcomings." It came as a box office bomb. Khan appeared in the comedy film Coolie No. 1 in the same year as Varun Dhawan. 1, an homage to David Dhawan's 1995 film of the same name. On Amazon Prime, the film had a huge following, but film critics had unanimously sluggish, but film critics had unanimously slammed it. Khan was chastised for not adding value to the film, with Anna M. Vetticad of Firstpost arguing that Khan does little more than fill the role of "the hero's love interest."

Khan starred in Atrangi Re, co-starring Akshay Kumar and Dhanush, 2021, as a woman with post-traumatic stress disorder. Critics divided the film. Monika Rawal Kukreja of Hindustan Times described her as the "soul" of the film and praised her performance and her Bihari accent. On the other hand, Uday Bhatia slammed her "grating Bihari accent" in her Mint review.

Khan will appear in Laxman Utekar's as-yet untitled next film opposite Vicky Kaushal. She will appear in Gaslight alongside Vikrant Massey. In Amazon Prime's Ae Watan Mere Watan, Khan will lead.
