Samantha Win Tjhya (born Samantha Win Tjhia, formerly known as Samantha Jo; born March 29, 1991) is a Canadian actress and martial artist who appeared in Canada's national representation at international wushu tournaments from 2005 to 2008.
In 2008, she competed at the Beijing Olympic Wushu Tournament as a member of Team Canada.
She debuted as an actress in the role of Kitana in Mortal Kombat: Legacy in 2012, as Car-Vex in 2013's Man of Steel.
She has worked in various projects since, with her most notable role coming in winter 2020 as a leader in Zack Snyder's Army of the dead.
Life and career
Win was born in Barrie, Ontario, to a Chinese Canadian family. As her mother was a black belt in jiu-jitsu, she has been training in martial arts since the age of four, performing jiu-jitsu as well as wushu before turning to wushu when she turned to wushu when she was 12. At this time, she also appeared in many children's print ads for Sears Company as well as in various toy commercials. Winn later became a member of the Sunny Tang Martial Arts Center in Toronto and a member of Team Ryouko Martial Arts in Newmarket. She competed in the 2007 World Wushu Championships and a double gold medalist at the Pan American Wushu Championships, and she was a bronze medalist on the Canadian National Wushu Team. In the 2008 Beijing Wushu Tournament, she also competed. Because of her extensive training, she was later hired as a stuntwoman for Hollywood films. Win continued her training by attending lectures with some of the best acting coaches and even went to Los Angeles's "Catherine" in Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge, where she appeared in "Catherine" on Thursday Night Theater Company.
