Sam J. Jones Life

Samuel Gerald Jones (born August 12, 1954), also known as Sam J. Jones, is an American actor.

He has arguably been best known for his appearances in the 1980 film Flash Gordon and the short-lived television series The Highwayman (1987–1988).

Early life

Jones was born in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in Sacramento, California. Jones enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he played American football in 1972. With time in the Army complete, he moved to Seattle with the hopes of playing for the Seattle Seahawks but was turned away. Rather, he played for the Flyers' practice team as a semi-professional in 1976.

Jones also started modeling to supplement his income. He appeared full-frontal nude under the alias "Andrew Cooper III" as the centerfold for a photo-spread in the Playgirl magazine's June issue. He appeared in television commercials for a sporting goods store in Seattle before eventually transferring to Los Angeles in 1977.

Personal life

Jones married Lynn Eriks in 1982; they had two children and divorced in 1989. Following Erika's divorce, he married Myrtille Blervaque, a French actress he encountered while filming on Mauritius' island. They were married in Nevada on August 15, 1987, and divorced three years later. On June 26, 1992, he married Ramona Lynn Jones, and they now have three children.

Sam J. Jones Career

Career

Jones appeared in the 1979 romantic comedy film 10 for the first time. His appearance in ten made him win over Kurt Russell and Arnold Schwarzenegger for his most well-known role, that of Flash Gordon in the 1980 film of the same name. Jones' hair was dyed blonde for this role. The film was moderately successful at the box office in North America, grossing $27.1 million in North America and $22 million in the United Kingdom, representing double its $20 million budget. However, Jones' fallout with producer Dino De Laurentiis resulted in the cancellation of a planned film trilogy.

Playgirl reprinted his 1975 nude photo spread in its January 1981 issue, this time using his real name. In the TV series Code Red (1981–1982), he went on to play Chris Rorchek. He appeared on several television shows, including The A-Team, Hunter, and Riptide. He appeared in a television adaptation of Will Eisner's comic book The Spirit in 1987. In the short-lived NBC sci-fi film The Highwayman, he also played the title character. On the HBO series 1st & Ten in the late 1980s and early 1990s, he portrayed Johnny Valentine.

Jones appeared in the 1986 film My Chauffeur and the straight-to-video films Jungle Heat (1985), Jane and the Lost City (1988), Silent Assassins (1988), and One Man Force (1989). Jones appeared in films including In Gold We Trust (1990), Maximum Force (1992), Fist of Honor (1993), and The American Tigers (1995), and guest appearances in Baywatch, Diagnosis Murder (1996).

Jones appeared in Animal Planet's family film Hollywood Safari in 2001 as a park ranger. In "Deadman Switch," an episode of the television show Stargate SG-1, he appeared. Jones retrained in 2002, and when he is not acting or working autograph booths on the ComicCon circuit, he works as a high-end security consultant in San Diego, shielding traveling executives from Mexico. "I became a security professional 15 years ago," Bill says. My wife looked at me and said, 'You've been waiting for the phone to ring.' The phone isn't ringing. We have children. The door is open. Don't come back until you're providing.' I walked away from brands years ago because of this.

I'm a working guy. I'm a working man" no matter what it takes to provide.

In 2007, he appeared in the Sci Fi Channel original television series Flash Gordon. In both Ted 2 and its 2015 sequel, Ted 2, he had extended cameos (as himself, with his blond Flash Gordon hairstyle). Jones appeared in and was executive producer of, Life After Flash, a crowdfunded feature-length film about Flash Gordon, before he died. Melody Anderson, Brian Blessed, Peter Wyngarde, Mark Millar, Stan Lee, and Brian May explores how Jones' demise with De Laurentiis influenced his life and work.
