Club career
Benrahma began his youth with Algerian club NRB Bethioua before heading to France and joining Balma SC, Colomiers, and then Ligue 1 club Nice in 2013. He made his professional debut under Claude Puel in 2013-2014 but spent the majority of his time with the reserve team, for whom he played 37 appearances and scored 11 goals between 2013 and 2016. Benrahma scored one goal in his first three appearances in 2014–15 season and two more in 2015–16.
Benrahma's late involvement with the club aside on loan, at Ligue 1 team Angers and Ligue 2 clubs Gazélec Ajaccio and Châteauroux, led to ankle injury and the arrival of manager Lucien Favre. Benrahma left the Stade de Nice in July 2018 after making 18 appearances and scoring three goals during his time with the club.
Benrahma joined Brentford in England on a four-year deal, with the possibility of a further year for an undisclosed fee. In a 4–2 EFL Cup first round victory over Southend United on August 14, he scored his first goal for the club on his third appearance. In mid-August 2019, Brentford's entire 2019-20 pre-season match program was missing and returned to competitive action before breaking back into the starting lineup late in the month. Benrahma made 46 appearances and scored 17 goals, including two hat-tricks, during a 2019-20-20 season in which his appearances culminated in him being named in the Brentford Supporters' Player of the Year and named in the Championship PFA Team of the Year. Brentford's rise to the 2020 Championship play-off Final, as well as the 2018 Championship Player of the Month and Player of the Month awards were given to him. Benrahma joined West Ham United in a season-long loan contract on October 16, 2020, with an agreement to make the transfer permanent. International career
Benrahma was called up to the Algeria national team for friendly matches against Guinea and Senegal in September 2015. On October 13, 2015, he made his debut in the match against Senegal as a replacement for Baghdad Bounedjah after 70 minutes of the 1–0 triumph. Benrahma was called into the squad for two 2018 World Cup second round qualifiers against Tanzania, but did not turn up one month later. Benrahma's teamwork at Brentford during the 2018–19 season was recognized with a call-up for two 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, marking his second international debut in a 1–0 win over Tunisia on March 26, 2019. He was selected in Algeria's preliminary squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations but he was forced to leave due to injuries.
