Early life
Rupanjit Singh Bal was born in Amritsar, Punjab, India, on January 26, 1990, into a Punjabi Jatt Sikh family of the Bal clan. When he first started grade 10 in India, he and his family migrated to Canada from India. He was born in Brampton, Ontario. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Criminology at the University of Guelph and received his earlier education from the Spring Dale School Amritsar and Turner Fenton Secondary School in Brampton.
Career
Bal had intended to attend York University but had to cancel last minute due to the school transfer. Bal met fellow Indo-Canadian comedian Jus Reign and was invited to appear in one of his YouTube videos while attending University of Guelph. Bal's first video was A-1 Shopping Cart Driving School, and Jus Reign was impressed enough to be invited for a larger role in another video Desi Parents. This was the first video in which Bal appeared in character as Jus Reign's fictional mother. Bal became a YouTube partner and began making money from his YouTube videos after two years of making YouTube videos.
Harbhajan Mann, a Punjabi musician and actor, who gave him a part in his Punjabi film Haani, caught his YouTube fame. Bal talks in a candid podcast interview with Amin Dhillon about Mann's phone call in the moment. Bal started to be pranked and hung up on the Mann. Bal's conversion from YouTube comedian to actor was daunting. He wasn't a trained actor and had never been to a film set before. Bal credits that film gave him his acting experience and he went on to star in his upcoming Punjabi film 22 g Tussi Ghaint Ho.
Bal has appeared in a few music videos, including Mickey Singh's Body. He now works as a video director in Punjabi music and owns Rupan Bal Films. Karan Aujla, Deep Jandu, Bohemia, and Jazzy B. have all made videos of famous musicians such as Karan Aujla, Deep Jandu, Bohemia, and Jazzy B.
