Dwayne Johnson Life

Dwayne Douglas Johnson (born May 2, 1972), also known as The Rock, is an American-Canadian actor, director, and former professional wrestler.

Johnson worked for the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) for eight years before embarking on a career in acting.

Johnson, who played in North America and abroad, has earned over $3.5 billion in North America and over $10.5 billion worldwide, making him one of the most popular and highest-grossing box-office actors of all time.

He aspired for a career in football and signed the 1995 NFL Draft, but he was undrafted.

As a result, Johnson joined the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL), but the team was cut from the team in the middle of his first season.

Johnson started training as a professional wrestler in 1996 and was proclaimed as the first third-generation wrestler in the company's history, as he is the uncle of Rocky Johnson and grandson Peter Maivia.

Early life

Johnson was born in Hayward, California, on May 2, 1972, the son of Ata Johnson (née Maivia) and former professional wrestler Rocky Johnson (born 1948) and retired professional wrestler Rocky Johnson (born Wayde Douglas Bowles; 1944–2020). As a child, Johnson lived in Grey Lynn, New Zealand, with his mother's family, where he played rugby and attended Richmond Road Primary School before returning to the United States.

Johnson's father was a Black Nova Scotian with a small amount of Irish ancestry. Samoan is his mother. In 1983, his father and tag team partner Tony Atlas became the first black tag team champions in WWE history. His mother is Peter Maivia's adopted daughter, who was also a pro wrestler. Lia Johnson's maternal grandmother was the first female pro wrestling promoter to take over Polynesian Pacific Pro Wrestling following her husband's death in 1982 and 1988. Johnson, who was born in Maivia, is a non-blood cousin of the Anoa's wrestling family. Johnson inducted his father and grandfather into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008.

Johnson attended Montclaire Elementary School in Charlotte, North Carolina, before moving to Hamden, Connecticut, where he attended Shepherd Glen Elementary School and then Hamden Middle School. Johnson attended President William McKinley High School in Honolulu, then Glencliff High School and McGavock High School, both in Nashville, and then Freedom High School in Bethlehem Township, where he graduated in 1990.

Johnson began struggling and was drawn into a culture of violence and petty crime at Freedom High School in the Lehigh Valley. He was jailed multiple times for fighting, stealing, and checking fraud before he was 18 years old, and was banned from fighting for two weeks. "A troubled teen with a history of run-ins with the police," the local newspaper later described him as "a troubled youth with a history of run-ins." Jody Cwik, a football coach at Freedom High School, saw athletic potential in Johnson and recruited him to join Freedom's football team, where he played defensive tackle. Johnson's personal transformation began after the incident. "My thought process began to change." "I started worrying about goals and what I wanted to achieve," he's since described his high school football experience.

Johnson was not only a member of the track and field and wrestling teams at Freedom High School, but also played football at the school. The Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, which is best in the country, was contested by the school's football squad, its track and field, and wrestling teams. According to WIN magazine, the EPC's wrestling programs have been ranked as "among the best in the nation's best in the sport for almost three decades," and Johnson has stumbled into some of the nation's best high school wrestlers.

Johnson had only participated in two years of high school football, but the fact that he had excelled on a team in an elite high school athletic division known nationally for producing a long list of professional and Olympic athletes, including future NFL stars Andre Reed, Saquon Barkley, Kyzir White, and others attracted the attention of NCAA Division I collegiate athletic divisions, including future NFL players Andre Reed, Saquon Barkley, Kyzir White, and others, attracted the attention of NCAA Division I collegiate athletic division collegiate athletic division national high school athletic divisions, including future NFL football, including former NFL football, including current NFL, including current National Football, including future NFL teams collegiate division known nationally for collegiate sports national championships. Johnson was voted one of the top ten high school defensive tackles in the country by college football recruiters. He accepted a full athletic scholarship from the University of Miami, whose football program was then one of the best in the country.

Personal life

Johnson first met Dany Garcia, a University of Miami undergraduate and football player, in the early 1990s. On May 3, 1997, the couple married. She is a businesswoman, IFBB registered bodybuilder, and a producer. Simone, their daughter's, was born on August 14, 2001.

Johnson and Garcia announced on June 1, 2007, that they were separating amicably, and their divorce was finalized in May 2008.

After dating Lauren Hashian, the daughter of Boston drummer Sib Hashian, Johnson began dating her. They first met in 2006 while Johnson was filming The Game Plan. They were married in Hawaii on August 18, 2019. Jasmine (born December 17, 2015) and Tiana (born April 17, 2018) are their two daughters.

Johnson and Hashian own a farm in Virginia and a second home in Southwest Ranches, Florida, and have lived in Los Angeles.

During his visit to Malietoa [Alo o Malietoa] in honor of his service to the Samoan people and because he is a descendant of Samoan chiefs, Johnson was given the honor of Seiuli (meaning the son of Malietoa] by Malietoa Tanumafili II. He obtained Canadian citizenship by his father's birth and citizenship in 2009, and was granted Canadian citizenship.

In 2003, he got a partial Samoan pe'a tattoo on his left side. He had the tiny "Brahma bull" tattoo on his right arm covered with a bull's skull tattoo in 2017.

In February 2020, WWE announced that Johnson's daughter Simone began training at the WWE Performance Center, making her the first fourth-generation WWE wrestler. Johnson announced on May 16, that she had signed a WWE contract, and that her wrestling name would be Ava Raine in May 2022.

Dwayne Johnson Career

Football career

Johnson continued to play defensive tackle at the University of Miami as he did in high school in Pennsylvania. He was a member of Miami's 1991 national championship team in his freshman year. Johnson spent four years with the University of Miami, but he fell behind top players on the depth chart, including future NFL star and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Warren Sapp, and appeared mostly in backup roles.

Johnson earned a Bachelor of General Studies and a double major in criminology and physiology at the University of Miami in 1995. Johnson, in addition to being a member of the University of Miami's top-tier collegiate football team, was one of the University of Miami's most popular student speakers, frequently advising students to remain in school and avoid the dangers of opioid use.

Following his graduation from the University of Miami in May 1995, Johnson was signed by the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. Calgary moved Johnson from defensive tackle to linebacker, moving him from defensive tackle to linebacker, the position he had been playing on the high school and collegiate levels. He was called to Calgary's practice squad but was suspended two months into Calgary's 1995 season.

Professional wrestling career

After being cut by Calgary, Johnson began his professional wrestling career in 1996. Pat Patterson, a veteran wrestler, appeared in numerous tryout matches for Johnson with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). Wrestling at first under his real name, Johnson defeated The Brooklyn Brawler at a house show on March 10 and lost matches to Chris Candido and Owen Hart. Johnson, who was a member of Jerry Lawler's United States Wrestling Association and winning the USWA tag team championship twice with his partner Bart Sawyer in the summer of 1996, has signed to a WWF tag team championship. He received additional instruction from Tom Prichard, as well as Achim Albrecht and Mark Henry.

Although Johnson's real name was announced by the announcers, he made his WWF debut as Rocky Maivia, a mix of his father and grandfather's ring names. He was initially reluctant to take this ring name, but Vince McMahon and Jim Ross convinced him not to do so. He was given the nickname "The Blue Chipper" and was praised as the WWF's first third-generation wrestler. Despite his wrestling inexperience, Maivia, a clean-cut face character, was pushed from the start. On Monday Night Raw as a member of Marc Mero's entourage, he debuted on November 4, 1996. His first match at Survivor Series took place on November 17, 1996, as the sole survivor and eliminated the final two members of the opposing team, Crush and Goldust, were the final two members. He won the Intercontinental Championship from Hunter Hearst Helmsley on Monday Night Raw on February 13, 1997. In Your House 13: Final Four: Maivia then successfully defended the title against Helmsley.

On March 23, 1997, Johnson's first WrestleMania match was won over by the Sultan, who was victorious in his Intercontinental Championship defense against The Sultan. Fans of WWF began to question his reputation and pull the organization in a new direction. On the March 31 episode of Raw is War, he defeated Bret Hart by disqualifying in a title defense. Hart coached Johnson for his first year in WWF and refused to be paid to remove the title from him. On April 20, the 'Taker' resurgent lost to Savio Vega by countout but retained the title. Audiences in Maivia became more hostile, with chants of "die, Rocky, die" and "Rocky sucks" being heard during his matches.

Maivia returned to combat for the first time in his career in August 1997, beating Faarooq, D'Lo Brown, and Kama. Owen Hart suffered a serious knee injury in a match against Mankind on April 28, 1997. He refused to mention the Rocky Maivia name, instead referring to himself in the third person as "The Rock" Rocky Maivia, although he would later be named as "The Rock" Rocky Maivia. In his promos, the Rock would then routinely mock the audience, WWF artists, and interviewers.

Stone Cold Steve Austin, a student at the University of On December 7, 1997, he defeated the Rock in under six minutes to keep the Intercontinental Championship. Mr. McMahon ordered Austin to defend the title in a rematch but lost it to the Rock instead, handing him the trophy belt before hitting him with the Stone Cold Stunner. The Rock feuded with Austin and Ken Shamrock from 1997 to 1998. The Rock defeated Shamrock by disqualification on January 19, 1998, defeating them in the Intercontinental Championships. Later that night, he entered the Royal Rumble contest and lasted until the final two before being defeated by Stone Cold Steve Austin. He defeated Shamrock once more on March 29, defeating the entire title but leaving him disqualified. The Rock debuted a new Intercontinental Championship style on Raw is War, and later overthrowrow Faarooq as the head of the Nation of Domination, sparking a conflict between the two countries. Over the Edge: In Your House on May 31, Richard successfully defended the Intercontinental Championship against Faarooq. The stable will then be referred to as "The People" in the media.

The Rock and The Country then feuded with Triple H and D-Generation X, with the two unified leaders first meeting in the 1998 King of the Ring tournament, which the Rock defeated. The Rock beat Dan Severn in the semi-final match and then lost to Ken Shamrock in the final at King of the Ring. The Rock revived his rivalry with Triple H, after the two teams had two out of three falls in Your House for the Intercontinental title, which the Rock retained in a tumultuous fashion. On August 30, 1998, the Rock lost the title after a ladder match at SummerSlam.

The Rock saw a major increase in fan support in the second half of 1998. During this period, which will last until 2000, he began solidifying his celebrity. His fame led him to his booking in a feud with fellow Country members Mark Henry and D'Lo Brown, who later became a troll, turning babyface in the process. Henry defeated him on Judgment Day in 1998, following Brown's interference, effectively ending the deadlock.

The Rock was then entered into the "Deadly Game" tournament for the vacant WWF Championship. The finals of the Survivor Series on November 15, 1998, where the Rock defeated Vince McMahon's associate, Mankind, to win his first WWF Championship. After the McMahons captured Mankind, the Rock turned heel again. Rock Bottom, the Rock Bottom, a pay-per-view he was named after him, has a rematch with Mankind for the WWF Championship on December 13, 1998. As the Rock advanced to the Mandible Claw submission round, Mankind appeared to win the match, but Vince McMahon determined that since the Rock did not tap out, he retained his status.

The Rocks continued to clash with Mankind over the WWF Championship, which was exchanged back and forth between them. Mankind defeated the Rock after Stone Cold Steve Austin interfered in the main event of the Raw Is War on January 4, 1999. In a brutal "I Quit" match, which only came to an end if one of the combatants says "I quit" on a microphone, the Rock recovered the crown on January 24, 1999. This match was supposed to highlight a vicious streak in the Rock's history, but it went horribly wrong at the end of the match, with the Rock striking Mankind in the head with a steel chair 11 times rather than the scripted five, five shots being a risky number (most wrestling matches in the Attitude Era involving steel chairs had at least three shots to the head). After the fifth shot, Mankind was still on ringside rather than being two-thirds up the entrance ramp, and after the eleventh shot, which resulted in the death of a bloodied Mankind, a video of Mankind saying "I Quit" from an earlier interview was used to describe the public address system. The Rock and Mankind appeared in an Empty Arena match on January 31, where any part of the stadium could be used to determine the match. Mankind pinned the Rock in the WWF championship after 20 minutes of tumultuous brawling in the ring, including a kitchen, a restaurant, an office, the arena corridors, and eventually a basement loading area. During halftime of that year's Super Bowl, this match was referred to as "Halftime Heat" as it was broadcast. The two teams met again in a St. Valentine's Day Massacre on February 14, 1999, meaning Mankind retained the title, despite the fact that it was a draw. After a debuting Big Show interfered on his behalf, the Rock captured his third WWF Championship in a Ladder Match on February 15. On March 28, 1999, the Rock then lost the WWF Championship to Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania XV.

Even though the Rock's fame grew, audiences still cheered for him. At Backlash: In Your House, he then lost the title rematch against Stone Cold Steve Austin on April 25, 1999. War was fired from the corporation after Shane McMahon trampled him, turning him face again and starting a feud with Triple H, The Undertaker, and the Corporate Ministry. WWF broadcasted the pilot episode of SmackDown!, a term derived from one of the Rock's catchphrases. In the episode, the Rock retaliated with The Corporate Ministry, which became a point of contention. This culminated in a match with Triple H at Over the Edge on May 23, 1999, which the Rock won, as well as a match against The Undertaker at King of the Ring, which the Rock lost. After interference from "Mr. Ass" Billy Gunn, the Rock then lost a number one contender's match to Triple H, at Complete Loaded. In a Kiss My Ass match at SummerSlam on August 22, 1999, the Rock then defeated Gunn. The Rock was also given the opportunity to compete with The Undertaker in the Buried Alive match, Kane with the Inferno Match and Mankind, and the Inferno Match and Mankind with the Boiler Room Brawl: the Brahma Bullrope match was a normal singles match in which the components are tied together with a rope used for cattle raising, and both the rope and its attached cowbell could be used as weapons. Twice in Texas (vs. Triple H in Dallas) and vs. Al Snow in Houston), the Rock contested this match twice, both in Texas (vs. Al Snow in Houston).

The Rock began working with former friend Mankind shortly after SummerSlam, and the two became known as the Rock 'n' Sock Connection.' The champions of WWF Tag Team For the first time since losing to The Undertaker and Big Show for the first time on the 1990 edition of Raw is War. Mankind brought parody versions of people from the Rock's past on television, including his high school girlfriend and his high school football coach, only to have the Rock mock them. The segment received an 8.4 Nielsen rating, one of the highest ratings for a Raw segment ever. On the September 9, 1999 episode of SmackDown, the two lost the titles to Undertaker and Big Show. On the September 20, 1999 episode of Raw is War, we recovered them from them. On the upcoming episode of SmackDown, Rock and Mankind then lost the titles to The New Age Outlaws. After defeating the New Age Outlaws on the October 14, 1999 episode of SmackDown, Rock and Mankind will take the tag titles for the third and final time. On the October 18, 1999 episode of Raw is War, the Holly Cousins lost the titles.

The Rock and Behold were both present at the Royal Rumble in 2000, and they were one of the final two remaining, as well as Big Show. In an effort to reach a "false conclusion," Big Show planned to throw the Rock over the top rope in a running powerslam-like position before the Rock re-entering the competition as the champion. During the reversal attempt, the Rock's feet did not touch the ground, but those watching the game on television didn't see it. This was played up in the storyline as Big Show provided an additional video clip demonstrating this fact and claimed to be the correct winner. The Rock's top-one challenge to the WWF Championship was then put on the line against Big Show at No Way Out on February 27, 2000, which Big Show triumphed after Shane McMahon interfered. The Rock then defeated Big Show on March 13, gaining the right to face WrestleMania 2000, which also included Big Show and Mick Foley. Each wrestler had a McMahon in his corner: Triple H had Stephanie, Foley, Linda, and Big Show had Shane. The Rock lived to the final two years, but Triple H, then-reigning champion Triple H, was unable to save him after Vince betrayed him by hitting him with a chair.

a Magic: The Gathering deck archetype was named after him due to his appearance at the time.

The Rock forged his rivalry with Triple H and eventually won his fourth WWF Championship, which he claimed on April 30, after Stone Cold Steve Austin intervened on his behalf. He defended his title against Shane McMahon in a Steel Cage match the following night. In an Iron Man match with Shawn Michaels as the special guest referee, the Rock faced Triple H on May 21, Judgment Day. With the score tied at five separate falls, and with seconds remaining on the clock, the Rock was disqualified when the Undertaker struck Triple H, winning Triple H 6–5 and the title. The Rock won the WWF Championship for the fifth time at King of the Ring on June 25 by scoring the winning pin in a six-man tag team match against Shane McMahon, Triple H, and Vince McMahon, who pinned Shane McMahon. On July 23, the Rock defended the championship against Chris Benoit, who was totally Loaded. At SummerSlam next month, he successfully defended his title against Kurt Angle and Triple H. On September 24, at Unforgiven, the Rock had another successful title defense against Benoit, Kane, and The Undertaker.

On October 22, 2000, the Rock then lost the WWF Championship to Kurt Angle, who was No Mercy. The Rock feuded with Rikishi over the next month, defeating him at Survivor Series. In a Cell match for the WWF Championship at Armageddon, in which Angle would keep the title, the Rock faced a six-man Hell. With The Undertaker on December 18, Raw won the WWF Tag Team Championship, defeating Edge and Christian before losing it back to them the next night at a SmackDown! The taping has begun. The Rock continued to feud with Angle over the WWF Championship in 2001, culminating at No Way Out on February 25, 2001, where he pinned Angle to win the WWF Championship for the sixth time. The Rock then feuded with Stone Cold Steve Austin, the reigning Rumble champion who lost the WrestleMania X-Seven after Austin allies with Vince McMahon, who intervened on his behalf. Triple H attacked the Rock on the next night's Raw Is War, allying with McMahon and Austin and assisting Austin in keeping the championship intact. The Rock was indefinitely suspended in storyline, and Austin and Triple H then formed The Power Trip, a tag team developed by The Power Trip. Johnson starred in The Scorpion King during this off-season.

During what is commonly described as The Invasion storyline, the Rock returned in late July 2001 when the WWF was feuding with rival promotions World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW). In reality, WCW was bought by Vince McMahon and the WWF, but ECW was out of business in early 2001. Many former WCW and ECW wrestlers were then brought to WWF television and established The Alliance to compete with WWF in storyline. Vince McMahon and the Alliance then attempted to convince the Rock to join their team. The Rock banded together with McMahon and the WWF. For the first time in history, the Rock defeated Booker T. at SummerSlam to win the WCW Championship for the first time. On October 21, 2001, he lost the title to Chris Jericho at No Mercy. He teamed with Jericho to win the WWF Tag Team Championship from The Dudley Boyz the next night on Raw. On the November 1, 2001 episode of SmackDown, the two then lost the tag titles to Booker T and Test. On the November 5 episode of Raw, the Rock defeated Jericho for his second WCW Championship.

The Rock wrestled in a "winner takes all" elimination tag team match at Survivor Series, where the losing team's firm will be dissolving in storyline as part of WWF's conflict against The Alliance. He was a member of Team WWF, as well as Chris Jericho, The Undertaker, Kane, and the Big Show. Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, Booker T, Rob Van Dam, and Shane McMahon made up the Alliance's team. In the end, it came down to a one-on-one contest between the Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austins. The Rock seemed to have the upper hand until his colleague Jericho stepped in and struck the Rock. Austin tried to cash in on this by pinning the Rock, but Kurt Angle revealed his true allegiance by attacking Austin. The Rock pinned Austin, giving Team WWF the victory and causing the Alliance to disband. Following the Alliance's defeat, the Rock's WCW Championship was renamed the unbranded "World Championship." The Rock lost the World Championship to Jericho on December 9, 2001, when the WWF and World Championships were unified later that night. The Rock then unsuccessfully challenged Jericho for the now contested WWF Championship at Royal Rumble on January 20, 2002.

The Rock defeated The Undertaker in a singles match at No Way Out, the next pay-per-view television show. Also during the festival, the WWF's debut of the illustrious WCW group New World Order, which at the time included "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, and Scott Hall. On March 17, 2002, the Rock and Hogan met in a match at WrestleMania X8. Both men were branded "icon versus icon" during the match, and Hogan was pinned at WrestleMania X8 by the Rock. Despite the Rock portraying of a heralded character and Hogan the villain, a segment of the audience cheering enthusiasticly for Hogan. In an interview in 2013, Hogan and the Rock modified the style of the match on the fly based on the crowd's reaction. The WWF held a "draft lottery" on the March 25, 2002 episode of Raw, following the debut of the first-ever brand extension. The Rock was the top overall pick going into the SmackDown! Before going on a sabbatical from wrestling, the brand was on the lambush.

On a June episode of Raw, the Rock made a surprise appearance before heading to his new brand, SmackDown! On July 21, he was named the best candidate for the WWE Undisputed Championship, which he won for the seventh time at Vengeance, defeating Kurt Angle and then-champion The Undertaker in a Triple Threat match. After losing Triple H and Brock Lesnar in a tournament involving Lesnar's assistant Paul Heyman, the Rock defended the name against Triple H and Brock Lesnar after pinning Triple H at Lesnar on August 25, the youngest WWE champion in 1998, which he had set in 1998. Sean Coyle wrote for ESPN.com in an event that culminated in a fanbase decrease" following his win over Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania X8, "which plunged to a pit" as a result, and "the show devolving to a decline" by the time Rock's match against Lesnar at SummerSlam because fans knew he was leaving WWE to pursue an acting career." During his match against Lesnar, he was met with a hostile crowd response, as shown by the fact that he was met with a skepticism. The Rock was clearly raged at the crowd's reaction after SummerSlam ended. The supporters at Nassau Coliseum booed him as he attempted to do a post-show address for the crowd. The Rock took time off to restart his acting career.

On the episode of SmackDown's January 30, 2003, the Rock appeared on SmackDown. No Way Out is the place where you will meet Hulk Hogan in another match. The Rock returned to heel for the first time since 1999, owing to poor fan reaction during his previous two games as a result of his budding acting career. He also started a new persona with a fresh look and a shaved head. The Rock defeated Hogan at No Way Out before heading to the Raw brand. He had several minor feuds with the Hurricane, including one with The Hurricane. He also started "Rock Concerts," segments in which he played the guitar and mocked WWE performers and fans in song.

The Rock went back to Stone Cold Steve Austin after losing to qualify for a top-one competitor in the World Heavyweight Championship. On March 30, 2003, WrestleMania XIX held a match that brought back to Austin's previous two WrestleMania matches, both of which Austin had won. The Rock won after delivering three consecutive Rock Bottoms, putting an end to their long-running rivalry in what was ultimately Austin's final match. Raw was dubbed "The Rock Appreciation Night" in honor of his victory over Austin. He was assaulted by a debuting Goldberg that night. Goldberg defeated The Rock, who then went back to WWE to film Walking Tall, with backlash on April 27, 2003.

The Rock made occasional appearances throughout the year, returning to a face. In 2004, The Rock helped Mick Foley with his Infringement Against Evolution, which culminated in the formation of the Rock 'n' Sock Connection.' In a handicap match at WrestleMania XX on March 14, 2004, when Orton pinned Foley after an RKO, they lost against Ric Flair, Randy Orton, and Batista. This will be Johnson's last wrestling match until November 2011. Following WrestleMania XX, the Rock appeared in WWE sporadically. He returned to help Eugene against Jonathan Coachman, made a cameo in his hometown of Miami and assisted Mick Foley against La Résistance. Later this year, he hosted a pie-eating competition as part of the WWE Diva Search, and ended the segment by giving Coachman a People's Elbow. The Rock's WWE deal came to an end, and he began his full-time acting career.

The Rock appeared on a WWE show after almost three years, as a result of a pre-taped promo shown during Raw on March 12, 2007. In Donald Trump and Vince McMahon's "Battle of the Billionaires" hair vs. hair contest, he correctly predicted that Bobby Lashley would defeat Umaga at WrestleMania 23. On March 29, 2008, Johnson appeared to induct his father Rocky Johnson and grandfather Peter Maivia into the WWE Hall of Fame. During the Decade of SmackDown, Johnson's next appearance was made via a pre-taped promotion on October 2, 2009.

The Rock appeared on September 30, 2009, at a World Xtreme Wrestling (WXW) showcase to promote Sarona Snuka's professional wrestling debut, as the niece of his long-time friend and mentor Jimmy Snuka.

The Rock was confirmed as the host of WrestleMania XXVII on February 14, 2011, the first time in nearly seven years. During a long promo, he addressed the followers and sparked a feud with John Cena. The Rock made his first appearance on television before appearing on the Raw before going to face Cena in WrestleMania XXVII. After he and Cena exchanged insults, The Miz and Alex Riley appeared and assaulted the Rock, but it was only for Cena to blindside him with an Attitude Adjustment.

The Rock opened the show by cutting a promo on April 3, the WrestleMania XVII. The Rock made it backstage to ringside to restart the main event between Cena and The Miz as a No Disqualification match after it had ended in a draw. Rock pounded Cena on Raw as revenge for Attitude Adjustment Cena's Attitude Adjustment Cena, allowing the Miz to pin him and hold the WWE Championship. Rock smacked Miz with the People's Elbow after the match and hit him with the People's Elbow. The Rock and Cena, Raw, announced a match against WrestleMania XXVIII next year. Wade Barrett, Heath Slater, Justin Gabriel, and Ezekiel Jackson were all involved in the attempt to prevent a Corcorrespondence attack.

The Rock appeared on Raw in his hometown of Miami to celebrate his 39th birthday. WWE announced the Rock would fight in a classic 5-on-5 Survivor Series tag team match on September 16, co-teaming with Cena at Survivor Series in November. However, Cena suggested the Rock be his partner in a standard tag team match against The Miz and R-Truth, which Rock agreed to the following week. The Rock appeared live on Sunday, delivering Rock Bottoms to Mick Foley, who had been hosting a "This Is Your Life" segment for Cena, and then later all members of Awesome Truth. At Survivor Series on November 20, the Rock and Cena stunned Awesome Truth when the Rock pinned The Miz. The Rock Bottom gave Cena a Rock Bottom after the match.

The Rock and Cena had several verbal brawls on Raw leading up to WrestleMania. The Rock hosted his first "Rock Concert" segment since 2004, mocking Cena in his songs on March 12, 2012. The Rock defeated Cena in the main event on April 1, beating Cena in the main event after turning Cena's attempt at a People's Elbow into a Rock Bottom. This was the highest pay-per-view buyrate in professional wrestling. The Rock praised Cena on Raw, calling their match "an honor" the following night. He promised to become WWE champion once more.

The Rock revealed on July 23, at Raw 1000, that he would compete for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. During the show, he met then-reigning WWE Champion CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, and John Cena, all of whom expressed a desire to see him. The Rock later saved Cena from a Big Show attack, but CM Punk was unable to help the singer escape. On the 2013 episode of Raw, the Rock returned to face Royal Rumble opponent CM Punk. On January 11, he made his first SmackDown appearance in ten years, teaming up with Team Rhodes Scholars, culminating in him delivering a Rock Bottom to Damien Sandow and a People's Elbow to Cody Rhodes.
