Lin began to develop a passion for acting when she first saw her on camera in 1995, albeit for a minor role. Lin caught the interest of television and film producers after filming her first TV commercial, and several companies have started searching for her roles. Jimmy Lin and Takeshi Kaneshiro appeared in School Days for the first time. Lin appeared in many Taiwanese TV series from 1995 to 1997, and the media began to pay attention and admiration. Lin went to China for the first time in 1996; she considered this a period of valuable involvement and a time when she first learned about acting.

Lin was chosen by Taiwanese writer Chiung Yao for a small part in the comedic period drama My Fair Princess, a joint effort by mainland China and Taiwan that was based on Chiung Yao's own book.
