Alison Wright (born 12 July 1976) is an English actress.

She is best known for her appearance on television show Martha Hanson, for which she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in 2017.

Wright's other notable roles included the film The Accountant (2016), as well as the television series Sneaky Pete (2015–2018) and Feud (2017).

Early life

Wright was born on July 12th, 1976, in Sunderland, Tyne, and Wear, where she was raised by her adoptive parents. She started dancing and acting at a young age. Wright spent time at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York City and The Barrow Group. When it was auditioning for roles, she performed as a waitress.

Wright made her acting debut in the comedy-drama film The Nanny Diaries, which was released in 2007. This was followed by appearances in various short films. Molly Bhatt appeared in the comedy Rafta, Rafta, (2008), followed by a role in the play Marie and Bruce (2011), which was both at the Acorn Theatre.

Wright made her television debut in the FX period spy drama series The Americans in 2013. Martha Hanson, a solitary FBI secretary who has been tricked into espionage for the Russians, has received a lot of praise. For the second season, she was promoted to a series regular, which premiered in January 2014. Wright received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series in 2017 for her guest appearance in The Americans' fifth season. After six seasons in 2018, the series came to an end.

Wright starred Marjorie in the Amazon Prime Video crime drama series Sneaky Pete, garnering rave reviews from 2015 to 2019.

In the HBO political thriller film Confirmation, Wright appeared as Justine and as Virginia Thomas in the action thriller film The Accountant.

In the FX docudrama series Feud: Bette and Joan, she appeared as Pauline Jameson, the assistant to Robert Aldrich. Bette Davis and Joan Crawford's rivalry resurfaced throughout and after the filming of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane. Jessie made her Broadway debut in the play Sweat, which opened at Studio 54.

In a stage production of Shakespeare's tragic tragedy play Othello at Delacorte Theater in 2018, she appeared as Ada in the historical drama film Ask for Jane and as Emilia in a stage production. In 2019, she appeared in the second season of the psychological thriller anthology series Castle Rock. Valerie Wright starred as Valerie, a "kind-hearted local" who "looks at the town's tragic past.

Wright appeared in the TNT post-apocalyptic thriller Snowpiercer (2020–present), which is based on Bong Joon-ho's 2013 film of the same name. Ruth Wardell appeared in the film as Ruth Wardell, a train employee who looks after First Class passengers. Ms. Roswell, the gatekeeper to Ace Studios in the Netflix period drama miniseries Hollywood, made her guest appearance in the Netflix period drama miniseries Hollywood earlier this year.
