Romain Grosjean (born 17 April 1986) is a racing racer who is currently competing for the Haas F1 team.
Despite being born in Geneva and holding dual French-Swiss nationality, he competes under French flags in Formula One. At his first attempt and joined the Renault young driver program, he won the 2005 French Formula Renault championship.
He was the 2007 Formula 3 Euro Series champion.
In 2008, he became the inaugural GP2 Asia Series champion and finished 4th in his first year in GP2.
Despite missing the final eight races, he made his Formula One debut for Renault in 2009 and finished 4th in GP2. After being dropped by Renault on his first attempt and winning the 2010 Auto GP championship and the first GP2 Asia series and main GP2 series titles concurrently, he returned to junior formulae in 2010.
Given that the Asia and Main GP2 series will be combined, it is likely that this will continue to be the case for the foreseeable future. Grosjean and the Lotus F1 Team returned to Formula One in 2012, as did Kimi Räikkönen.
At the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix, he earned his first Formula One podium and set his fastest lap in the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix.
At the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix, he became the first driver since 1994 after causing a multi-car pile up.
He stayed with Lotus in 2013, winning six podiums.
He drove for Lotus again in the 2014 and 2015 seasons before moving to Haas in 2016, with whom he has a deal until the 2020 season.
Early life
Grosjean was born in Geneva, Switzerland. He was born to a Swiss father and a French mother. He is Edgar Brandt's great-grandson, weapon designer, and Brandt's founder. Fernand Grosjean, the grandson of skier Fernand Grosjean, a bronze medalist in a massive slalom at the 1950 World Ski Championship in Aspen, is also the grandson of the skiing legend.
Personal life
Marion Jollès, a French journalist and television presenter, married Grosjean in Chamonix on June 27, 2012. They have been together since 2008. Marion gave birth to Sacha's son on July 29, 2013. They have two children, Simon, who was born on May 16, and Camille, who was born on December 31, 2017. Grosjean, who had signed with Andretti Autosport and promised to racing full time in the IndyCar series, announced that he and his family will be headed to Miami due to the city's selection of French-language schools and the ability to book direct flights between Miami and Paris.
Early racing career
Grosjean won all ten rounds of the 2003 Formula Lista Junior championship and advanced to the French Formula Renault championship for 2004. He was seventh in his first season with just one win and the champion in 2005 with ten victories. He has also participated in the Formula Renault Eurocup and finished second in Valencia twice. Grosjean joined the Renault Driver Development Service for the continuation of his career due to his success and potential in the Formula Renault series.
Grosjean made his Formula Three debut at the 2005 Macau Grand Prix, assisting Loc Duval at Signature-Plus. He qualified 19th and finished ninth, defeating Fábio Carbone and Guillaume Moreau.
He completed the 2006 Formula 3 Euro Series for a full season, but had a rough year, finishing second on podium and ending the year 13th. He took pole position for both races at Pau, won both, and set the fastest lap in each, in a one-off appearance in the British Formula Three Championship.
He stayed in the Formula 3 Euro Series for 2007, but he moved to the ASM team, where Jamie Green, Lewis Hamilton, and Paul di Resta had already won the previous three titles. In the early stages, Sébastien Buemi dominated the championship, but Grosjean pushed forward with a victory in Mugello's ninth race of the season. He maintained a lead in the standings from that point forwards and claimed the title in the final round of the year with just one race in hand.
Grosjean took pole position in the prestigious Masters of Formula 3 series at Zolder but finished 14th after stalling at the start.
In the inaugural GP2 Asia Series season, Grosjean rode for Art alongside Stephen Jelley, winning both rounds of the championship. With four race victories and sixty-one points overall, he went on to win the championship.
For the 2008 GP2 Series, he stayed with ART Grand Prix team. Luca Filippi and Sakon Yamamoto were among his coworkers.
Grosjean started 11th in the first round of the Circuit de Catalunya after experiencing engine issues in qualifying. He came from nowhere to finish fifth in the feature run, placing him fourth on the grid for the shorter sprint distance. Grosjean was up to second after a good start and then went to Kobayashi for the lead. Grosjean made a mistake on a late roll revival, and Kobayashi attempted to pass him back for the lead. Grosjean moved to Kobayashi to remain undefeated, but the stewards ruled his defensive move was unlawful and pushed him to 13th place at the end of the season. Grosjean's victory in the sprint race in Istanbul, the fourth round of the season, boosted the city's fourth position. Despite being bounced back from this position, he ended the season fourth and earned the distinction of being the highest-placed rookie in the championship, earning the honor of being the nation's highest-placed rookie.
Nico Hülkenberg, the 2008 Formula 3 Euro Series champion, joined Pastor Maldonado at ART for 2009, putting Grosjean out of the team. Despite this, Renault placed him at the 2008 team champions of Campos Grand Prix, also known as Barwa Addax. Grosjean finished second in the championship standings despite missing the last four rounds.
