Roger Fisher (born February 14, 1950) is a guitarist best known as one of the band's founding members.
His tenure lasted from 1963 (in the band's first iteration) to 1980.
Career
Heart started as Army in 1963 in Seattle, Washington, and was led by bassist Steve Fossen and brothers Roger and Michael Fisher. Army, Hocus Pocus, and White Heart followed the army, before settling on Heart in the mid-1970s. Ann Wilson joined the band in 1970 and 1974; romances between the Fisher brothers and Wilson sisters erupted, with Mike dating Ann and Roger dating Nancy.
Heart came to fame after the album of their debut album, Dreamboat Annie, was released in 1976. Petit Queen, Magazine, and Dog and Butterfly were all well-received. The Roger Fisher / Nancy Wilson romance came to an end following the debut of the Dog and Butterfly album. Fisher was banned from the organisation in October 1979.
Roger Fisher formed Alias in 1990 with vocalist Freddy Curci and guitarist Steve DeMarchi, who were once members of the Canadian rock band Sheriff; the other two performers were fellow ex-Heart members Steve Fossen on bass and drummer Mike Derosier on drums. Alias had a few hits, most notable in 1990 with the song "More Than Words Can Say," which resurfaced in a Subway sandwich commercial in 2005. Alias toured extensively through 1990. Johnny Carson appeared twice on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, once with Johnny Carson and then with Jay Leno. When touring to promote their album, the group disbanded in the early 1990s.
Fisher's musical career continues. He has released two solo albums and collaborated with many artists in the Pacific Northwest USA, including session/touring percussionist Matthew Burgess. He was also affiliated with the "Clever Bastards" group. In 2007, Fisher and his family moved from Washington State to Prague, Czech Republic. However, he lives in Monroe, Washington, as of September 2008.
Fisher was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013 as a member of Heart.
