Christopher Stein (born January 5, 1950) is the co-founder and guitarist of Blondie, the new wave band.
He is also a producer and performer for the classic soundtrack of the hip hop film Wild Style, as well as the writer of the film Union City's soundtrack.
He is also an excellent photographer.
Personal life
Stein was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Jewish parents. He grew up in Brooklyn's Midwood neighborhood and attended Midwood High School, but was banned from wearing long hair. Stein and Harry had a romantic relationship in Blondie, but they never married. Both the couples split up in 1989, but they have continued to collaborate on a professional level. Stein was co-host of TV Party, a public-access television television network television show in New York City that aired from 1978 to 1982.
Stein was diagnosed with pemphi vulgaris, a rare skin disease. He was cared for by his then-partner Debbie Harry and has since returned to normal life. Stein had a mild case of the disease and was able to combat it with a program of steroids. He was still touring and recording with Blondie as of 2016.
Barbara Sicuranza, a native of Bainbridge, married actress Barbara Sicuranza, with whom he has two children, Akira and Valentina, in 1999.
Stein would be unable to tour with the group due to heart problems in April 2022 ahead of Blondie's UK tour. "I've been dealing with Atrial Fibrillation or AFib, which is irregular heartbeats, and combined with the medications I take for it, I'm too drained to function," Stein said. Glen Matlock, a former Sex Pistols bassist, will be filling in for Stein.
