Robert George Schimmel (January 16, 1950 – September 3, 2010) was an American stand-up comedian best known for his blue comedy.

Despite the fact that his act's profane character limited his commercial success, he earned a reputation as a "comic's comedian" due to his continual touring, comedy collections, and regular appearances on HBO and The Howard Stern Show.

Personal life

Vicki Schimmel married his first wife in 1977 and they had four children together. Derek, their son, died of cancer at the age of 11. Schimmel later divorced and remarried, raising two sons with his second wife, Melissa.

Schimmel as an adult suffered from cancer and had one of his testicles removed.

Vicki Schimmel's first wife, Vicki, had a tumultuous relationship. "We got married, then got the marriage annulled, got divorced, remarried, and remarried," their son Derek was sick from cancer and died. Schimmel and his second wife Melissa eventually divorced in 2000 after Schimmel became intimately involved with his second wife Melissa.

Schimmel suffered a heart attack in 1998. He was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in June 2000. His medications included chemotherapy and required long stays in the hospital. On May 2, 2009, Schimmel was arrested in Calabasas, California, as a result of a suspected rivalry between himself and his wife Melissa. The district attorney eventually declined to press charges, citing insufficient evidence. Melissa Schimmel filed for divorce on May 8, 2009, citing irreconcilable inconsistencies. Schimmel said in an interview with Howard Stern that his wife had cheated on him with their neighbor, but he denied there being any solid evidence. Schimmel also stated that he was bankrupt as a result of some of Melissa's financial transactions.

Schimmel revealed in a cirrhosis diagnosis while in the Air Force during a blood transfusion. His cirrhosis had progressed to the point that he was unable to be added to the waiting list for a donated liver.

Early life and career

Schimmel was born in Bronx, New York City, the son of Betty and Otto Schimmel, Holocaust survivors. He was voted class clown during high school and spent a year in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War period. In 1980, he was living in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he was employed as a stereo salesman. He started performing at a comedy club's open-mic night at the request of his sister. When Schimmel arrived in Los Angeles, he was promised to keep him a regular, but the club had burned down.

Schimmel made his name for himself, undaunted, and with some assistance from Rodney Dangerfield, who arranged him to appear on his HBO Young Comedians Special. He created content for In Living Color and for comedians such as Yakov Smirnoff and Jimmie Walker.

Schimmel had developed and completed a TV pilot for a show that would have his name on the FOX network in 2000, with Brie Larson and Vicki Davis as his two children. Schimmel was forced to vomitate due to cancer and then cancelled, so the show was put on hold. YouTube has the following scene.
