Timothy James "Tim" Kazurinsky (born March 3, 1950) is an American actor and screenwriter best known for his role as Carl Sweetchuck in the Police Academy films.

Early life

Kazurinsky was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. His father, who was born in Poland, was of Polish descent, and his mother, a war bride in Australia, was an Australian war bride. He spent the majority of his childhood in Australia, where he attended Birrong Boys High School. He came from Spain alone when he was 16, and he came to America. He completed his education, graduating from Greater Johnstown High School in 1967.

Kazurinsky began as a reporter for the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat and later as a copywriter for a St. Louis, Missouri, department store. He moved to Chicago and began working with Leo Burnett Worldwide in the advertising department. Kazurinsky enrolled in an improv class at The Second City, where he first appeared in a mainstage troupe in 1978, refining his creativity and acting chops under Del Close's tutelage. Eventually, Kazurinsky piqued the attention of Saturday Night Live's John Belushi, who recommended him to the show's then-executive producer, Dick Ebersol. In 1981, Ebersol was impressed with Kazurinsky and recruited him as a writer and cast member.

Marcia Watkins, a Broadway actress, lives outside Chicago with his partner. (On Your Toes, A Chorus Line) Zoe is the daughter of Zoe and Pete, and Pete is his son.
