Hermon Reed Howes (July 5, 1900 – August 6, 1964) was an American model who later became an actor in silent and sound films.
Early life
Howes was born in Washington, D.C. in 1900, Edwin Luther Howes and Grace LaForest Howes' only child (née Meserve). He spent the beginning of his childhood in Washington, D.C., before heading with his parents to Ogden, Utah. He served in the United States Navy in the final stages of World War I and as the captain of the Pacific Fleet Swim Team. He was sent as an apprentice seaman. Howes grew up at the University of Utah, where he graduated. He later attended Harvard University's Graduate School and then moved to show business after being posted in vain in stock roles. He saved the lives of a young woman and another man when they almost drowned in the ocean at York Beach, Maine, 1919.
Howes married three times in his life: to Lillian Pechin in 1923, Catherine Tabor in 1932, and Mary Donovan Howard in 1937.
