Career
Root moved to London full time in 1987 to study as an actor at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, notably in TV shows such as Keeping Up Appearances and Casualty, and stage plays as "The Lady's Not For Burning, Hamlet, and Tartuffe."
Root played as "a romantic lead, debonair, knight, and a soldier" before her role in the award-winning film The Danish Girl (her debut in film) and a lead role in the acclaimed BBC Two romantic sitcom Boy Meets Girl, she considered her role as "a romantic lead, debonair, knight, a soldier, and generally "normal."
Root appeared in the BBC Radio 4 drama 1977 about the transgender composer Angela Morley, who had become a household name to British radio listeners as Wally Stott. It came at a time when Morley was called to complete composition of the musical soundtrack to the film Watership Down in three weeks flat.
Root is also a voice coach, with classes at the East 15 Acting School and in Highgate, London. Since she went from male to female in 2003, she began a career as acting work became more difficult to find. Root also offers voice therapy lessons specifically for transgender people to help them "find a voice that fits their gender identity."
