Career
Smith began acting as an infant, appearing on stage in A Christmas Carol repertory from ages 8 to 11, and appeared in a stage play with Richard Dreyfuss at age 15. On her 37th birthday, she appeared in the original stage version of To Gillian, receiving the Dramatic Critics Award for her role, becoming the youngest actress to receive such a distinction at this time. In 1981, she made her television debut in a McDonald's commercial titled "Best Friends."
She joined the Screen Actors Guild at the age of nine and made her debut in John Huston's 1982 version of Annie Bennett Warbucks' Annie as one of Annie Bennett Warbucks' fellow orphanage. In 1985, she co-starred in two melodramas, Not My Kid and Crime of Innocence, as well as a small part in Iron Eagle (1986). Smith & Pyle, actress Missi Pyle, was a member of a country rock music band called Smith & Pyle. The two actresses met while filming an ABC comedy pilot named Traveling in Packs. Since Smith invited Pyle to join her in the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the band was born. The pair formed a band.
In July 2008, the band's first album, It's OK to Be Happy, was released digitally by iTunes and Amazon.com. Chris Goss produced Joshua Tree, California, and it was their debut album. Smith and Pyle became business partners and established Urban Prairie Records, their own record store.

In December 2001, the band unveiled their debut full-length album, Untied. On Becker's behalf, she balanced the band with being a regular cast member. In 2004, the band officially ended.
Smith started working on a solo album with producer Chris Goss in 2004, but the project was never completed. "I'm finding time to listen to music for a while" in an interview with Radio Free in October 2005. After Jesse Hughes overheard her performing the song in a studio toilet, she sang of Steve Miller Band's "Abracadabra" by Eagles of Death Metal. This cover was first published in 2019.
