Career

Degan was first discovered in New York City as a male model and later worked in film. Degan was based in Italy and appeared in a number of Italian commercials by the mid-1990s; he also appeared in several television films and appeared in minor roles in cinematographic films. In 1994, he appeared in Robert Altman's 1994 film Prêt-à-Porter. He received the role of Darius III in Oliver Stone's film Alexander in 2004. Degan appeared in Ermanno Olmi's film One Hundred Nails, which opened the 2007 Cannes Film Festival in 2005. In 2008-2009, he appeared in a number of Italian film productions playing various roles, including hero and villain. He appeared in Barbarossa in 2009, starring Dutch actor Rutger Hauer in the title role. During 2010, Degan appeared in the French Film Forces specials alongside Diane Kruger and Djimon Hounsou. Degan continued to film in Tajikistan and Afghanistan along the Pamir Mountains range, then moving into Tibet and Nepal shooting short documentaries for Italian television. Also in 2010, Degan hosted "Mistero" on Italia1 for two seasons, resulting in numerous documentaries.

In 2013, Degan was the film director of photography for The Green Prince, which received several accolades, including the Audience Award for World Cinema – Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival. He was also nominated for several awards for his cinematography. After spending a few years on a Peruvian Amazon shooting on an international film called The Last Shaman, Degan made his directorial debut in 2016. Leonardo DiCaprio was executive producer of the film and it was released in 2017.
