Rakhee Gulzar (born Rakhee Majumdar in 1947 and widely known as Rakhee) is an Indian film actor who has appeared in several Hindi films and Bengali films as well.
She has received three Filmfare Awards and one National Film Award in four decades of acting, in addition to several other accolades.
Raakhee has been nominated 16 times in total (8 times for Best Actress and 8 times for Best Supporting Actress), making her the second most-nominated actress in the female categories, behind Rani Mukerji.

Early life
In the early hours of 15 August 1947, only hours after India's independence, Rakhee was born in a Bengali family at Ranaghat in the Nadia district of West Bengal. She began her early education in a local girls' academy. Her father had a flourishing shoe business in East Bengal, modern-day Bangladesh, before India's partition, and then he settled in West Bengal. Raakhee's planned marriage to Bengali journalist/film director Ajay Biswas happened shortly after, but it came to a halt soon after.
She omitted her surname and was briefly mentioned in film credits only as "Rakhee," after which she rose to fame, but she later became known as Rakhee Gulzar after marrying lyricist-director Gulzar.
Personal life
Raakhee married poet, writer, and lyricist Gulzar in her second marriage. Meghna Gulzar, the couple's daughter, has been born. They divorced when their daughter was just one year old. Meghna grew up to become a film producer, including Filhaal..., Just Married, and Dus Kahaniyaan, and wrote a biography of her father in 2004 after completing her graduation in film from New York University.
On Sarojini Road in Khar, Mumbai, Raakhee remained in her bungalow, "Muktangan" (bought from Marathi playwright P. L. Deshpande). Later, she sold the house and moved to a two-story apartment, but the new high rise is still called by the same name as she had wished. She mainly remains in the Panvel farmhouse on Mumbai's outskirts as of 2015.

Career
In 1967, the 20-year-old Rakhee appeared in her first Bengali film Bodhu Boron, after which she was given the lead role in Rajshri Productions' Jeevan Mrityu (1970) opposite Dharmendra.
Rakhee appeared in Lal Patthar and Paras in 1971, playing a double role opposite Shashi Kapoor in Sharmilee and also appeared in Lal Patthar and Paras; all three films were huge, and she established herself as a leading actress of Hindi cinema. Shehzada (1972) opposite Rajesh Khanna and Aankhon Aankhon Mein (1972) opposite Rakesh Roshan (1972) showcased her comedic skills, but their box office performance was unsatisfactory. She continued to perform well in small roles in Lal Patthar, Heera Panna (1973) and Daag: A Poem of Love (1973), both of which she appeared in. The astonishing popularity of Rajshri Productions' Tapasya (1976), a heroine-dominated film in which she played the sacrificing sister opposite Parikshit Sahni established her as a box-office name to reckon with. Rakhee cites her performances in Blackmail (1973), Tapasya (1976), and Aanchal (1976) as her best performances.
She appeared in Heera Panna, Banarasi Babu (1973), Joshila (1973) and Lootmaar (1980). In ten film released, Rakhee appeared opposite Shashi Kapoor (1972), Kabhie (1976), Basella (1978), Khie Dhahie (1981), Bandhan Kuchchey (1985), and Unknown Ek Do Teen Chaar (1985). In eight films, Kabhie (1976), Muqaddar Ka Sikander (1978), Trishul (1979), Barsaat Ki Ek Raat (1981), and Bemisal (1982). Her name is even listed in some films, such as Jurmana, before the hero.
