Pia Miranda Career

Career

Miranda studied drama at the Atlantic Theater Company in New York for one year before playing Karen Oldman on the Australian soap Neighbours, from 1998 to 1999. Jo Tognetti was also starring in the ABC television series 'Bondi Banquet' at this time. This was the beginning of Miranda's future in the Australian film and television industry, with Josephine Alibrandi being chosen for the role of Josephine Alibrandi in Kate Woods' 1999 film Looking for Alibrandi.

The film was based on Melina Marchetta's novel '93, where seventeen-year-old Josephine Alibrandi grapples with the stresses of Year Twelve, her illegitimacy, the reunion with her father, new-found companionship, the death of her close friend, and life as a third-generation migrant in modern Australian society. Miranda starred alongside Kick Gurry, Anthony LaPaglia, Greta Scacchi, Elana Cotta, and Matthew Newton as co-stars. Pia Miranda received the National Film Institute Award in 2000 for Best Actress for her role. In addition to her work with Looking for Alibrandi, she was nominated for an FCCA Award in the Best Actor - Female category in 2001, where she lost to Julia Blake.

Miranda appeared in the US film Queen of the Damned in 2002, although her scene was removed from the film as it appeared on the DVD. Pia Miranda appeared in The Doppelgangers, again in 2002. The film was part of a campaign where eight Australian filmmakers were given a short film script by respected writer Brendan Cowell. Filmmakers were required to identify their own film and characters, as well as following a series of guidelines, such as shooting on digital cameras and making no dialogue changes. The initiative met with only modest success.

Miranda starred in another Australian film Garage Days as Tanya, following The Doppelgangers. The coming-of-age comedy revolved around a young Sydney band struggling to establish a foothold in the competitive pub rock scene. The film was well-received in Australia and is now available on DVD. Miranda played Leanne Ferris in Travelling Light, about two sisters growing up in Adelaide in the early 1970s. Miranda appeared in Right Here Right Now in 2004.

Although Miranda is best known as a film actress, she has also appeared in some television shows. She appeared on All Saints, the period of Our Lives in 2013 and 2014, and the beloved Australian drama The Secret Life of Us, playing Talia. Miranda has also appeared in The Glass House, Grass Roots, and the Australian talk show The Panel and The Project.

Miranda has also appeared as a celebrity artist in A Midwinter Night's Dream, a ticketed charity auction of art with pillow cases, as the medium and inspired by artists and celebrities' childhood dreams, to raise money for War Child Australia. Nicole Colosimo, Miranda's sister, appeared in Vince Colosimo's Australian film Moving Out. In 2014, she appeared in Standing on Ceremony, one of Neil LaBute and Paul Rudnick's nine plays on gay rights.

Miranda appeared in the well-known Australian prison drama Wentworth in 2015. Jen has appeared in the teen comedy drama Mustangs FC as Jen since 2017.

Miranda appeared on the sixth season of Australian Survivor. Miranda's casting resulted from an interview with television show "Chriss", where she announced her "Guilty Pleasure" of Survivor. She then took the Final Jury Vote unanimously 9–0 over fellow finalist Baden Gilbert and ultimately won the series. In 2021, she was inducted into the Australian Survivor Hall Of Fame.

Miranda was Thong on the fourth season of The Masked Singer Australia in 2022. She was the third contestant to be announced and finished tenth overall, and placed third.
