Pete Rock Life

Peter O. Phillips (born June 21, 1970), better known by his stage name Pete Rock, is an American recording artist, DJ, and rapper.

He came to fame in the early 1990s as one half of the widely respected group Pete Rock & CL Smooth.

He was also known for his remix work early on in his career. Rock continued to work in a solo fashion after the pair split up, but not in the way of mainstream success.

Rock, alongside groups including Stetsasonic, Gang Starr, A Tribe Called Quest, and The Roots, played a major role in the transition from jazz to hip hop music (also known as jazz rap).

He is widely regarded as one of the top hip hop producers of all time, and he is often regarded alongside DJ Premier, RZA, and J Dilla as one of the mainstays of 1990s East Coast hip hop production.

Pete Rock is both the older brother and younger cousin of rappers Grap Luva and Heavy D.
