Career
Stanger is a third-generation matchmaker (see shidduch). She served as the Director of Marketing for Great Expectations prior to starting her company in January 2000.
She has also worked in fashion. Stanger was first introduced to fashion by Janis Spindel, who had recruited and scouted the 24-year-old when looking for an assistant. Stanger was a fashion designer for ten years at Unionbay Sportswear, JouJou Jeans, and Saks Fifth Avenue.
"Successful men in the dating industry wanted a private, exclusive club where they could meet their beautiful and intelligent wives," Stanger wrote in 2000.
Stanger won a contract with her own reality show Millionaire Matchmaker on the Bravo TV Network in 2008. Stanger appeared on and produced the film.
Millionaire's Club's hour-long match began with her matchmaking. Each episode featured her matchmaking two millionaires. On a DVD, first, millionaire clients wrote a biographical video profile describing the type of partner they want. Stanger then met them individually to help anticipate their needs and welcome them to the club. She's been dubbed "The Simon Cowell of Dating" by her and made some brief, specific remarks. "I am not paid to mask my true feelings," she said. Her "casting calls" or "recruiting sessions" were where she scrutinized both men and women, resulting in her making stern remarks about their clothes and appearance. She told one woman that she had a stunning face but that she didn't get to her millionaire because she was 10–15 pounds overweight. In an interview, Stanger said, "I can't do much for women over 45," she said, "and if they're overweight, it's almost impossible." She advised another woman to get her wig off and then suggested that she get hair extensions.
The millionaires and 30-40 potential dates would first meet at a cocktail party hosted by Stanger, where they mingled and the millionaires had to assess the candidates. The millionaires selected their top two candidates and held 10-minute "mini dates," which they then selected the candidate they liked best. Stanger announced the choices, and then the millionaires set up their "master dates."
There are only certain guidelines in the Millionaire's Club. For example, millionaires are unable to worry about sex or trade phone numbers at the mixer. No sex is allowed until the couple is in a "exclusive, committed, monogamous union" relationship. On each date, there is also a two-drink maximum enforced. Patti will disqualify a millionaire if the club's terms are breached, and Patti will kick him or her out of the club.
Stanger called each candidate chosen for their master date or invites them or them into her office to discuss how the date went.
Each couple will be shown whether they are still together or not, and the show will come to an end.
From January 22, 2008 to March 29, 2015, the show ran from January 22, 2008 to March 29, 2015.
