Patrick John Miguel van Aanholt (born 29 August 1990) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays for Premier League club Crystal Palace as a Leftback. He began his work at Chelsea, where he was used sparingly, and at five other clubs, investing time on loan.
He joined Sunderland for about £1.5 million in 2014 and was moved to Crystal Palace in January 2017 for a fee increasing to £14 million. Van Aanholt appeared for the Netherlands at various youth levels before making his full international debut in 2013.

Club career
Van Aanholt joined Chelsea's youth ranks in 2007, making his professional debut at Coventry City on August 9, 2009, beating Ipswich Town 2–1 Football League Championships. In December, he was recalled to Chelsea due to the withdrawal of several players due to the African Nations Cup.
Van Aanholt was first selected for Chelsea in an FA Cup match against Preston North End in 2009–10, but the squad number 52 was not present, and remained on the bench. In a 0–5 away win at Portsmouth on March 24, 2010, he made his Chelsea debut on Saturday, replacing Yuri Zhirkov at left-back after 71 minutes. He made his home debut against Aston Villa in a 7–1 victory on March 27, 2010, as a replacement. After regular left back José Enrique suffered an injury, Van Aanholt joined Newcastle United on a one-month loan contract on January 29, 2010. With Jonás Gutiérrez, he provided cover for the Spaniard, extending Newcastle's burgeoning left flank. Van Aanholt appeared in his last game at Watford, who were 1–2 away.
Van Aanholt scored his first goal in his career on September 22, 2010 in the 4-3 loss to former Newcastle in the League Cup. He joined Leicester City on loan until the end of the season on January 26, 2011. He made his debut in a 1–0 victory over Sheffield United on February 1, 2011, but after playing six games, he developed a torn muscle in his thigh.
