Pat Green Career

Music career

Green began his music career as an 18-year-old at Texas Tech, playing small gigs at bars and clubs around Lubbock. Green released a series of albums by Lloyd Maines in 1995 using funds borrowed from his parents. Green did not commit fully to his music career until his stepfather resigned from his job as a fuel wholesaler in 1997. Green had been counting his money from a weekend of performing, and his stepfather knew he'd need to pursue music as a career.

Green attracted Willie Nelson's attention after committing to music and embarked on a tour that featured Nelson and several other well-known country musicians. Green's appearance at the 1998 Willie Nelson Picnic was his first step toward national recognition, and he was soon playing sold out shows in Texas. Green was sponsored by Miller Lite and has sold more than 250,000 albums, despite not being signed to a major label recording deal.

Three Days, Green's first major-label recorded album, repackaged his best pre-major songs and new tracks with modern sound engineering. In 2001, the album was released to acclaim. In 2003, the adventurous, Beatles-influenced "Wave on Wave" was released, peaking at number three on the charts by the year's end. Pop flourishes and sound engineering were gradually more compressed than those of "Three Days" but much more so than that of his independent debuts. Green's best career hit is still on the Christian-tinged title track.

Green's mid-2000s attempt was to cash in on his Wave on Wave commercial success. He had some critical and well-known success, but he was unable to replicate his predecessor's success, earning a "sell out" mark. "Lucky Ones" was Green's third and final CD release on the Universal/Republic label in late 2004. Despite poor brand recognition, the album ranked No. 6 on the United States Country charts. Keith Urban, Gretchen Wilson, Dave Matthews Band, and Kenny Chesney were among the notable country music artists on major tours. In 2006, Green's album Cannonball debuted. The album was criticized by CMT as aiming for the "uninspired pop sound of today's Nashville," with songs "starting to sound too much alike" and "crossing the line into Nashville pop" rather than "honest and natural." Green acknowledged that he needed hits to continue his career, which he adored. Green's debut of "Let Me" in 2008 as the first single from what would be his last label-released album, What I'm For. The single reached No. 12 on the country charts, giving Green his first top-20 single since "Feels Just As It Should" reached No. 1 at No. In 2006, the number 13 was recorded. "Country Star" was first released as the second single, but it was soon after the title track ("What I'm For") began receiving airplay. In July 2009, "Country Star" reached its high point at 32, while "What I'm For" reached its high point. Green was fired shortly afterward by BNA.

Green, who was was was washed out of the market in 2011, returned to Texas and independent music. Taste of Country premiered the official lyric video for a new song, "Girls from Texas," starring Lyle Lovett on September 2, 2014. "Girls From Texas" was released on iTunes on September 16, 2014. "While I Was Away" Green's album "While I Was Away" debuted on May 18, 2015. On May 22, the video, which was a salute to long-distance parents, premiered on People.com. After winning five consecutive fan-voted rounds against artists including Blake Shelton, Dierks Bentley, Cassadee Pope, and David Nail, "While I Was Away" was inducted into Taste of Country's Showdown Hall of Fame.

On August 14, 2015, Green's self-released Home debuted on digital media and landed at No. No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart. 5. Lyle Lovett, Sheryl Crow, and others appear on the album. On May 2, 2016, the twelfth single from the album, "Day One," was released to Texas radio. On May 26, 2017, Green self-released the single "Drinkin' Days." Dancehall Dreamin': A Tribute to Pat Green was released on Green's 46th birthday on April 5, 2018. The album includes ten Pat Green hits as well as some commentary about each song. He released the single "Friday's Comin" on July 20, 2018, worldwide.

Green's first album in seven years, "Miles and Miles of You," was released by Dwight A. Baker on September 2, 2022.
