Owen Teale (born 20 May 1961) is a Welsh actor best known for his role as Ser Alliser Thorne in HBO's Game of Thrones.
Personal life
Teale was born in North Cornelly, south Wales, and attended Cynffig Comprehensive School in Kenfig Hill. He was barred from the classroom for disciplinary reasons, and one of the instructors credited with sparking his interest in acting. He has been married twice, first to Dilys Watling and then to Sylvestre Le Touzel. He has three children.
Career
Teale made his television debut in The Mimosa Boys in 1984 as "Maldak" in the Doctor Who serial Vengeance on Vain. In 1989, he made his film debut in War Requiem. He appeared in Knights of God (1989), Great Expectations (1989), and Boon (1990) before being cast as Will Scarlet in the 1991 film Robin Hood.
He went on to appear in films such as Dangerfield, Ballykissangel, The Thin Blue Line, and the long-running Belonging, as well as Spooks and Murphy's Law.
He appeared in the 1999 version of The Cherry Orchard, opposite Charlotte Rampling as Ranevskaya and Alan Bates as Gayev. In Conspiracy, he played infamous Nazi judge Roland Freisler. He appeared in Midsomer Murders and Lewis.
He appeared in Marian, Again, in which he was the abused husband of Harrison's eponymous character. He also narrated narration for "The Green Valley," one of several farm series he has produced for the BBC.
