Titus B. Welliver (born March 12, 1962) is an American actor.

He is best known for his portrayals of the Man in Black in Lost, Silas Adams of Deadwood, Jimmy O'Phelan of Sons of Anarchy, and the title role in the television series Bosch.

Early life

Welliver was born in New Haven, Connecticut. Neil Welliver, his father, a Yale University fine art lecturer, later became dean of the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Fine Art. Norma Cripps, Welliver's mother, was a fashion illustrator. Welliver studied drama at New York University in the early 1980s before his film and television careers began. While attending New York University, Welliver befriended Adam Sandler in a comedy writing class.

Welliver's life has been marred by losses. Ashley Welliver's younger sister died of sudden infant death syndrome as an infant in 1976, and Polly Mudge Welliver, his 38-year old stepmother, died of a strep infection six months later on October 29. Eli Lustman Welliver, a 21-year-old boy, was killed by an accidental overdose after spiked with heroin during a failed robbery at a Chiang Mai, Thailand, in mid-May 1991. Silas Bartley Welliver, his 45-year-old uncle, died of muscular dystrophy on February 16, 2002, and his fourth wife, actress Elizabeth W. Alexander, died of breast cancer on October 23, 2012.

Welliver has been married five times. Heather Wielandt, Hollywood talent agent Dani Sexton, and actress Joanna Heimbold ended in divorce. In 2012, he was widowed when his fourth wife, film director Elizabeth W. Alexander, died of breast cancer. He has a daughter with Alexander and two sons with Heimbold. In Welliver's two films, Cora, Quinn, and Eamonn appeared. Jose Stemkens, a Dutch fashion consultant and former model, married him in 2014. In May 2019, Welliver filed a divorce request from Stemkens. Welliver is engaged to Samantha Edge as of May 2022.

Career

Welliver has worked on several film projects, including The Doors (1991), Mobsters (1991), Mulholland Falls (1996), Twisted (2004), Assault on Precinct 13 (2005). He has appeared in all four of director Ben Affleck's films; Gone Baby Gone (2007), The Town (2010), Argo (2012), and Live by Night (2016). He appeared in director Michael Bay's film Transformers: Age of Extinction in 2014.

On television, he appeared as a doctor on NYPD Blue and was one of the stars of CBS' Police drama Brooklyn South. In addition, Welliver is known for portraying Silas Adams, a semi-regular character on HBO's Deadwood. Kyle Hollis (a.k.a.) appeared in two episodes of Prison Break as Welliver's "The Representative." Reverend Orson Parker (British) appeared in the series "Man in Black" finale of Lost, which he reprised to appear in during the sixth and final seasons. In 1999, he appeared in "The Occupant" episode, where he played a man "occupied" by a demon. Welliver played Tom Landricks, a rapist on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

He was born into FX's Sons of Anarchy midway through season two, in which he portrays Irish gun kingpin Jimmy O'Phelan. In the CBS series The Good Wife, he began in 2009 as Prosecutor Glenn Childs, a competitor of Chris Noth's character. Thorwald, a local warlord fighting underground in a dying world contaminated by a global pandemic, appeared on The Last Ship in a recurring role for its first two seasons.

Welliver appears in Amazon Studios' TV show Bosch. The series is based on Michael Connelly's novels based on the same name. On February 13, 2015, Amazon Prime Video unveiled the first season of the series. On February 13, 2020, the series was revived for its seventh and final season. The Bosch series was followed by a May 2022 spin off called Bosch: Legacy, in which Bosch plays a private detective and Madeline (played by Madison Lintz) is a rooky police officer set in Los Angeles. In the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, Welliver appeared as an Imperial captain.

Welliver is also the narrator of several audiobooks, including Robert B. Parker's series of American western novels, Appaloosa, Brimstone, Blue-Eyed Devil, and Ironhorse. He has also written several of Michael Connelly Bosch's crime fiction books, including The Crossing, The Burning Room, and The Wrong Side of Goodbye.
